I am desperately clinging to Sierra because everything works so seamlessly, but sooner or later Apple is going to deep-six supporting my compatible Safari.

I run 10.12.6 and 10.14.6 Mojave is fine in my opinion, I waited a long time to update, basically the wait ended once 10.15.x was imminent and I had upgraded various software to 64 bit versions.

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.4
Affinity Designer 2.4.0 | Affinity Photo 2.4.0 | Affinity Publisher 2.4.0 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

Which reminds me, could you tell me how you have fared with upgrading to Mojave?

Previously, I was running High Sierra so there was not much difference after upgrading to Mojave. A few things seem slower than before, a few faster, & a few of the new features added in Mojave took a bit of getting used to. I did have to update the driver software for my Kensington trackball to eliminate a few oddities.

For the Affinity apps specifically, launching them takes longer than before, probably because (I think) Mojave added some new fonts that are not easily disabled.

Keep in mind that I am still running everything on a low spec 2012 iMac with just 8 GB of RAM, a conventional spinning HD, & a GPU that does not support GPU computational acceleration.

All 3 1.10.8, & all 3 V2.4.1 Mac apps; 2020 iMac 27"; 3.8GHz i7, Radeon Pro 5700, 32GB RAM; macOS 10.15.7
Affinity Photo
1.10.8; Affinity Designer 1.108; & all 3 V2 apps for iPad; 6th Generation iPad 32 GB; Apple Pencil; iPadOS 15.7

Thank you @Old Bruce and @R C-R.  Looks as though I might be well advised to upgrade first to High Sierra, go through the aches and pains, and then move to Mojave when I am stuck with another Safari deadline.  I think Apple usually supports Safari for at least one OS before the current one.  The dreaded INTERFACE looms for my 2017 iMAC.  As for loading time, the Affinity apps are already taking some time to load, because they are up to their necks in fonts, palettes, assets, styles, brushes, and goodness knows what other goodies.  (Goodies dutifully backed up on a flash drive.). Never mind. They are still tons times faster than I am!!   I have a 2013 MAC currently on Yosemite which might be a good candidate to check the trials and tribulations of Mojave first.  H’m’m’m.  Decisions, decisions.

What I have always done before upgrading the Mac OS is to clone the entire boot drive to an external drive. That way, if anything goes wrong or I decide it is not for me, I can clone it back to the boot drive. It takes a couple of hours but since I do that when I'm not using the Mac, it is no big deal.

I use SuperDuper! for this. I bought it for the extra features like smart updates but if you don't need that it is free to use.
