Hi,

How can I set the default font for text objects?

Whenever I make a new piece of text, the font defaults to Arial.  I want to set the default font to a different one.

I could not find a preference setting, but I may have verlooked something.https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/forum/5-affinity-on-desktop-questions-mac-and-windows/&do=add#

Set some text the way you want it, with the text cursor in the text chose Edit > Defaults > Synchronize from Selection and then immediately choose  Edit > Defaults > Save.

Affinity Designer 2.4.0 | Affinity Photo 2.4.0 | Affinity Publisher 2.4.0 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

I have done what "Old Bruce" suggested, and it appears to work for the open project (in Publisher) but if you start a new document, it reverts to Arial. Is there some way to set the default for all projects?

It sounds like you did the first part of what he suggested, but omitted the second part. It's the the Edit > Defaults > Save that would apply the change to future new projects.

I've tried this with Designer V2.04 and it doesn't seem to work - the default remains as Arial - any ideas?

Please tell us the exact steps you took, or provide a screen recording. Otherwise we can only guess.

I tried also, and it did not work for me. I'm attaching the screen recording. Thanks for any further advice!

Sorry for the delay.

In your screen recording, I can see that you selected some text, then Synchronized and Saved the Defaults.

However, after that it appears that you copied some text from another application and pasted it into Publisher. That will carry over the style definition of the copied text.

The Defaults are only used when creating new Text Frames or new Artistic Text objects.

It will work if you paste your text without formatting.

In this case, the current style of/at the insertion point will be used – entirely regardless of the style saved in the Defaults.

This will work if you create a new text frame. Although in this case, it should have worked.

Sorry; I'm having a hard time understanding what "this" and "it" refer to.

But I think it's also important to note that the default was set by using the Artistic Text Tool, on a piece of text in a Text Frame. That mixture may complicate things as I have been able to have separate defaults for the Frame Text Tool and the Artistic Text Tool.

If all of the text above has the same formatting as the sentence overriding, then inserting without formatting will work.
If the format of the text above is different from the last override, then only pasting into a new text frame will work.
To make things easier, it's best to create a paragraph style from the selection and then simply apply it - either to the entire text, if necessary, or to a specific sentence.
