[Bug] Files based on any architectural template fails on saving

Edit: Seems to be fixed in beta 1.8.1.611

I spent 2 mins on making a few tests in all of the programs and versions below:

Windows 10 Enterprise (I have seen reports from other users on Mac with same issue)

• Designer 1.8.0 release version
• Designer 1.8.1.604 beta
• Photo 1.8.0 release version
• Photo 1.8.1.604 beta
• Publisher 1.8.0 release version
• Publisher 1.8.1.604 beta

What a rotten bit of luck: ALL files based on whatever template under the 'Architectural' tab cannot be saved (to local disc, desktop), ever, same error:

Terminology note: Those are Presets, not Templates.

Good discovery and research. Thanks! I can confirm it on my system, too, in both 1.8 and the 1.8.1 beta.

Sorry, you are correct. This was reported on Monday and will be fixed in the next beta builds. Avoid using those templates for now, and in the unlikely event you have used one and not yet crashed, the only workaround we have is to save a snapshot (in the snapshot panel) as a new file.

Thanks for the workaround, Patrick. But I assume you meant "(in the snapshot panel)".

I had never noticed the "new document from snapshot" icon in that panel, and that's good to now about in general

Ironically that work around is also a bug because it is meant to save the template type in the new from snapshot and it's only because of an oversight that the workaround doesn't also crash.... 🤔

We have made fixes/improvements to this area (Unable to save projects created with Architectural presets) of the program in the latest customer beta. If you would like to try these changes the beta software is available in the forum posts listed below.

The latest beta builds are downloadable from links at the top of each of these beta forum posts.

• Affinity Designer 1.8.1.611 for Windows
• Affinity Designer 1.8.2.4 for Mac
• Affinity Publisher 1.8.2.619 for Windows
• Affinity Publisher 1.8.2.619 for Mac

These betas install parallel, next to the release version (they do not overwrite your release) and so the fixes can be tried in the beta without affecting your normal workflow in the release version.

Once these programs have been through a full beta process the change will be released in a future free 1.8.1/1.8.2 update/patch to all customers.
