geibi
when selecting an area with the marquee tool, it would be really helpful to move the selection by holding the space bar while holding the mouse (similar to photoshop) Raskolnikov and coranda
coranda
Yes, I miss this. I also miss the PS behaviour where holding down the opt key uses the starting point as the centre of the selection rather than the corner. geibi
velarde
Actually in photoshop you create a selection and you can move it with the move tool.... The move tool in Affinity only moves objects but I would like to move selection also... geibi
@velarde: this is a also a good point and you should open a new feature request thread, so that each request stands on its own and the requests are easier to follow by the Affinity team. coranda
velarde, In PS you can also move the selection while it is being made. For example, when I want to accurately select a circular area I use the elliptical marque as follows: Click in the centre of the area you want to select and drag out Keep the mouse button pressed, Press and hold option and the centre of the selection jumps to the place you originally clicked, Press and hold shift and the selection is constrained to a circle, Without releasing the mouse button press the space bar and now mouse movements move the whole selection without changing its size. Petar Petrenko
Is it possible to add control points to the selection as other objects have when selected? This way the selection can be easily moved, resized -- just as an object. velarde 1 Quote All the latest releases of Designer, Photo and Publisher (retail and beta) on MacOS and Windows. 15” Dell Inspiron 7559 i7 ● Windows 10 x64 Pro ● Intel Core i7-6700HQ (3.50 GHz, 6M) ● 16 GB Dual Channel DDR3L 1600 MHz (8GBx2) ● NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M 4 GB GDDR5 ● 500 GB SSD + 1 TB HDD ● UHD (3840 x 2160) Truelife LED - Backlit Touch Display 32” LG 32UN650-W display ● 3840 x 2160 UHD, IPS, HDR10 ● Color Gamut: DCI-P3 95%, Color Calibrated ● 2 x HDMI, 1 x DisplayPort 13.3” MacBook Pro (2017) ● Ventura 13.6 ● Intel Core i7 (3.50 GHz Dual Core) ● 16 GB 2133 MHz LPDDR3 ● Intel Iris Plus Graphics 650 1536 MB ● 500 GB SSD ● Retina Display (3360 x 2100)

This way the selection can be easily moved, resized -- just as an object. I would also like this... In my haste i thought I couldn't move selections, but now I see I can move a selection by having the selection tool still selected. The cursor changes depending if I"m over the selection. I can move it that way... (But the move tool is only for layers.) Also playing around a little more and agree with you about resizing selections. The way to do it is with the transform panel (a little clumsy if you ask me) typing numbers. I also would like to have control points on selection so I can resize them interactively. Bokan
Almost two years and half after the first post and this is not done yet. This feature is mandatory for me. As a web integrator I often need to select round object in order to find their size and the coordinates of the top left corner. Without this it require to select twice. Hi Bokan, please try this: On a pixel layer make a selection with the marquee tool. Press 'Q' to switch to the ruby overlay mode. Then hit 'V' for the move tool. You now can transform the selection in many ways (even skew and rotate) and the 'Info' panel and the 'Transform' panel give you a readout of the exact position and size of the selection. Once finished hit again 'Q' and then 'M' and you are back to the selection. I hope this helps d. mrichardson
I purchased version 2, in hopes that this "simple" feature would be integrated into the new package. It's the one feature lacking that I really, really want. Clearly, the code to "move starting point using the spacebar" has been invented because it works like a champ with shapes. We just need to apply the same concept to the creations of marquee selections. Since this issue has been hanging around for 7 years, it's clearly a low priority for whatever reason. So, it's time to put my money where my mouth is. Give me access to the code for creation of the shapes and also the code for creation of the marquee selections and I'll try and write up a git pull request. Or give us a "pseudo" macro language where we can modify the activity of your program to give us custom features like this. If none of this can be accomplished, at least speak to the nature of why it has been relegated to the hind teat at Affinity. Inquiring minds want to know. Thanks for your attention to this matter. mrichardson
Well, I guess I've moved from one walled off garden to another walled off garden. At least Affinity has the common decency to license the software for perpetuity after you purchase it thus guaranteeing you'll always have access to your work. I know those entrepreneurs that must interface on projects with others using Adobe products (thus requiring file compatibility) will find little solace in the previous statement. Also the ability to programmatically create documents outside of Affinity's user interface is gone. Fortunately for me, the reasonable price they charge for their software eliminates these compatibility problems as reasons not to purchase the software. Affinity's guys and gals gotta eat and I don't begrudge them the choices they've made all things considered.
