Why would anyone want to use software that doesn't have a Cat tool?😧
Totally indispensable. It’s the main reason I do all my graphic design work in Designer!
(Especially when a Friday 13th comes around😎).

Are you saying that you don't understand the tool, @vkasper? If so, it's described in the Help.

But the Help claims that one can activate it at any time by pressing Alt before displaying the Shapes flyout. I can't get that to work on Windows (at least in Affinity 1.8). I have to assign a shortcut key to the Cat Tool to get it at any time other than Friday the 13th.

I was never able to understand the meaning of the Cat tool,

Have you read the forum rules? The popularity of cats at Serif team is evident.

Oh dear perhaps another thing lost in the toolbar rewrite. @Sean P?

Apparently, in version 1.8, it is no longer the "Alt" key that makes the chat appear, but the "Shift" key.

I think that’s a Windows v Mac difference. It’s still the option/alt key on my Mac.
And of course you can always drag the little moggy into the tools panel to live there permanently if you want!

Thanks. Possibly just a Help error, then.

If the key change is voluntary, they probably forgot to update the help file. Until version 1.7 it was "Alt" that was used.

Thanks. I couldn't remember for sure what was used in 1.7.

🙈The most important thing I missed

Then try this:

  1. Create a new document, any size & with any document units you want.
  2. Draw a rectangle somewhere on the canvas, with any size & proportions you want.
  3. Select the rectangle & in the Transform panel, click the W/H proportions lock, & set the anchor point to center.
  4. In either the H or H text field, replace whatever is there with "1 cat" (without the quotes).
  5. Press Tab or Return to accept the change.

You have now discovered the cat unit of length, equal to 710 mm. 😸

Thanks for your report, I'm logging the keyboard shortcut on Windows with development now - as I'm not 100% certain if the help file is incorrect, or the shortcut itself. I'll be sure to update this thread as required! :)

Please Note: I am now out of the office until Tuesday 2nd April on annual leave.

If you require urgent assistance, please create a new thread and a member of our team will be sure to assist asap.

Many thanks :)
