Lots of issues with 1.8, but main one is not opening in the first place!

Anyone else having a major headache with the latest Affinity 1.8 update(s), specifically Affinity Publisher?

It routinely struggles to open at all, and when it does, quite often it just keels over and closes itself down again if I try and load an .afpub file.

This seems to happen any time I have another program open that uses fonts... like InDesign, Word, etc.

Am planning to roll back to the previous version this weekend, I think.

Same problem. I've installed o two PCs (both Win10). The 'fresh' install (on a PC that never had a previous installation) seems to work OK. The install on the PC that previously had 1.7 installed causes all kinds of problems.

1) Install Splash screen says 'Installing fonts...'

2) Splash screen vanishes. Program does not load.

3) Try again. This time program (SOMETIMES!) does load but some fonts are scrambled. e.g. Garamond (GARA.TTF) shows characters from some other font ??? (so do certain other fonts)

However: mostly the program just bombs out during loading. This was not a problem with 1.7.

Best wishes

Huw

Did not have this issue, although I did a full reset after upgrading by holding down Ctrl + Alt + Shift while opening Publisher to avoid any settings problems.

Why do you press so many extra keys?! It is sufficient to press the Ctrl key when starting the program 🙂.

I tried reinstalling 1.8 and pressing Ctrl+Alt+Shift to start the program, but it doesn't seem to have solved the problem - it does exactly what Huw said: the splash screen appears, but then the program bombs and disappears again. On the odd occasion when it does seem to load, it keels over as soon as I try and load an .afpub file into it. The other programs (Photo and Designer) don't seem to suffer with this problem after upgrading...

I'm sticking with Affinity Publisher 1.7 for now.

We are investigating issues around this area, but if people could navigate to %AppData%\Affinity\Publisher and zip up and upload the 1.0 folder it will contain crash reports which will help us verify it's the same crash on program load issue we are aware of.

Thanks
