because Affinity apps are written from scratch. They don't have anything in common with Serif's Plus apps.

Among other things the Affinity apps were designed to run on both Mac & Windows platforms, to use a single 'universal' native file format (so any of the apps can open a document created in any of the others without loss or conversion), & to support performance boosting features like file serialization & very efficient memory use.

This necessitated starting from scratch with an entirely new code base.

Still not sure why Compound objects and the contour tool haven’t been mentioned, I seem to be able to build non-destructive shapes by compound adding and compound subtracting even on iPad.

I understand that there are a lot of ways to create the result of using the shape builder tool, but I think the point people are trying to make is that the tool is used during the creative phase. To be able to manipulate curves efficiently while designing and experimenting is critical in logo design for example.  Not having it makes the process clunky.   Just my two cents.

or in the roadmap.

Shape Builder Tool has been on the roadmap for a long time.

However, roadmap is not currently public.

P. S. As can be seen from the linked post, Serif promised this feature in version 1.x, the update of which is free. So there is no reason to wait for it.

I'm guessing we're still a while off which is why I've invested in VectorStyler which I use as kind of an external plugin, which plugs a load of Designer gaps

Shape builder in VectorStyler works the same as this - plus you can copy and paste between apps (unlike Inkscape on the mac) although the Affinity clipboard is currently broke and messes up colours when pasted in other apps - once repaired (hopefully soon) it will work great and save loads of time and faff - Recommend as a companion app

The ShapeBuilder tool is the last step affinity designer needs to take to become an independent software, without the need to use Adobe’s Illustrator.

Afinnity Designer, if you want to take over Adobe’s dominance in your sector, you need to add the Shape Builder as soon as possible

The hope never dies. I am convinced of affinity and am willing to pay for an upgrade to have this feature. We need to support this big Project and I want to be a part of it.

Very good job so far Affinity !!!

Can you please work on implementing shape builder tool. Having to use geometry operators, is such a bad user experience. I am forced to go back to Adobe Illustrator because of this. I have checked YouTube videos on this topic and the entire thread here, and also your twitter account. It seams to me you are never going to implement it and it feels like a big letdown. I even got your book but I still feel like I have to go back to Adobe because it takes too much time to make a simple logo illustration. Using geometry operators makes a mess out of nodes and its all a headache experience from there on out.

I got to say that I wasn't aware of the shape builder feature when I was using Illustrator (probably because I wasn't using it for too long), but other than than, it seems like a very useful feature I and completely understand why you guys miss it this much (I personally miss the matrix to vector feature a lot...).

I really do hope that AD 1.11 or 1.12 will bring these and I deeply think that it will help people leave the Adobe monopole for studios that doesn't steal from people. (AP and Procreate did a great thing to make people quit Ps)

That's not even close to being the "#1 request".

I am not sure there is just one that could be considered #1 but pretty high on most user's list is real vector brushes.

Number one on my list is for Serif to fix all the major bugs and shortcomings, and Affinity applications are doing what I was buying it.

Other added features are just a big bonus for me, which I can't make any requests on, either with regard to the scope of the new features or their eta.

Yeah, certainly higher ranked than a shape builder tool. Also non-destructive vector and pixel warp, resizable UI elements among other things are more often requested, I guess.

2 years later? Is there a shape tool? It's really the only thing holding me back from using this over illustrator. A shape builder tool is way better than a boolean tool such as merge and delete clipping point without having to duplicate shapes for multiple Xor function. Affinity takes almost double the amount of time than illustrator.

I agree with everyones request so far. I understand if AD currently doesn't have the resources to build this; but I think it would be a giant mistake to not put it on the top of the list of tools designers want.

I think the lack of resources thing is just a cop out. Serif claim to have millions of people using their newest products, not to mention the money they made from the old ones. Now I don't know about anyone else, but I've purchased 3 products on PC and another 2 on the iPad, so in terms of revenue these guys have done very well for just a small team.

Honestly I've lost all hope in Affinity products ever reaching the claimed "professional" software status. Development seems to have just stopped and loyal customers have been left in the lurch for quite some time now, no updates or teasers on what's to come, no highly requested features being released, nothing, not a peep. I think they've made their retirement money, and now they're simply milking as much coin from the current release until it fizzles out, which it very much is. I'm not even bothering to install Affinity on my new computer which is sad because the products had a lot of potential.
