[AP Mac] "fsCachedData" folder contents

Recommended Posts

In my ~/Library/Containers/com.seriflabs.affinityphoto/Data/Library/Caches/com.seriflabs.affinityphoto/fsCachedData folder, there are 256 small files, all created on either February 10th or February 23rd while running AP version 1.7.3. As best as I can tell, AP did not crash on or close to either date, nor did I do anything unusual on those dates that would require retaining those files.

So I wonder why these files are there, if they serve any useful purpose, or if they indicate something wrong with my system or the app.

All 3 1.10.8, & all 3 V2.4.1 Mac apps; 2020 iMac 27"; 3.8GHz i7, Radeon Pro 5700, 32GB RAM; macOS 10.15.7
Affinity Photo
1.10.8; Affinity Designer 1.108; & all 3 V2 apps for iPad; 6th Generation iPad 32 GB; Apple Pencil; iPadOS 15.7

Hi, R C-R :

I've looked at that same folder : there's a load of files in there as well, going as far back as 2018 and as recent as yesterday...

Wonder what they are, seem to be mainly Web- pics. ????

Maybe when the 1.8.1 storm has passed, one of the Serif team will have time to reply to this post.

Meanwhile : best regards.

Now that you mention it, I remember emptying that folder while doing some troubleshooting with a slow start problem I was having with 1.7.3 on my iMac, I think around the beginning of January. That would explain why I don't have any files in there older than February 10th, but not why all my files are from just the two February dates.

Apologies for the delayed response here @R C-R!

I've spoken with our developers and we believe this is a WebKit (Safari engine) cache. We don't directly write to this location, it's done for us by the OS when downloading the cache for the Welcome screen.

If you use an SQLite browser to view the cache.db file in the folder above the one you've mentioned, it points to downloads from the Welcome Screen, which certainly backs up the above.

I've been told it's nothing to worry about, and should be safely deletable if space needs freeing up.

I hope this helps :)

Please note -

I am currently out of the office for a short while whilst recovering from surgery (nothing serious!), therefore will not be available on the Forums during this time.

Should you require a response from the team in a thread I have previously replied in - please Create a New Thread and our team will be sure to reply as soon as possible.

Many thanks!

No need for that. I know you folks have been very busy with the 1.8 escapes releases! 😈

That makes sense because I emptied the cache, then opened the Welcome screen & it immediately repopulated that folder.
