You guys rock.

I'm on a mixed suite Photo Designer via App Store, Publisher directly via Affinity/Serif.

How can I get out of this? Should I.

Probably when free updates end with release 2.0?

I moved this from the announcement thread as I think it may interest others too, hope that's ok.

As far as we know all aspects of the software are store agnostic. Having a mix of software purchased from the Affinity store and the Mac App Store (or from the Affinity Store and the Microsoft Store on Windows) should make [almost] no difference to it's use and functionality. The obvious difference is how you install (and subsequently update) but after that they are effectively the same. We release updates on all platforms and stores on the same day and so there is no obvious disadvantage to any choice there. However some people like the neatness of them being in one place and so I would say that when the purchasing opportunity of 2.0 comes alone you could consider buying them all from one place. Indeed as all apps should be available by then it could facilitate a 2.0 bundle price, but that would be a marketing decision and not in my remit.

So I cannot think of any significant reason to recommend single store purchases of 1.x and do not think it matters.

Was there something specific that makes you wonder?

Well – 1.8.1 is available in App Store but not yet directly via Affinity.

1.8.1 is now available for desktop Mac on the mac app store and the affinity store and auto-update. It is identical feature wise to 1.8.0 and contains single fixes specific to the mac app store. The affinity store builds were incremented to keep the numbers in step (ironically to avoid confusion between people reporting MAS problems and Affinity store problems)
