Can’t add brushes, pls help

Recommended Posts

So I followed both of these guides:

https://youtu.be/bbk9oFAVIGQ

https://youtu.be/NErv_pB6x0Y

And in the first I simply can’t press on the abr or zip file to add the brush (both are faded out)

In the second there’s no option to “Copy to Affinity”.

So is this a bug or what?
I updated the app and iPad to latest software as of the time of posting.

Unfortunately It seems no longer possible to import .abr brushes. I know it has worked in the past because I have imported abr brushes. Now I cannot. Maybe an iOS update killed it?

Hi Dave, I can still import ABR brushes just fine. Don’t forget in Designer you have vector brushes and pixel brushes so you have to be in either the vector persona or pixel persona in designer when importing the .abr brushes.

Alternatively it could be because I am in IOS13.4 beta.

I cannot import .afbrushes from iCloud.  It states it’s importing, but brush is not there when Import is completed.  Additionally, after download AP iPad update this morning, the problem remains and my brushes that are loaded, continued to scroll as if loaded multiple times.  May be designed by program; however, I don’t see any benefit.

@Paul Mudditt hi Paul, could you try this one. I’ve tried both vector and pixel modes. Makes no difference. I was able to load this brush at one point in time but not now.

@Cecil Which brushes are you importing as I don't see the touch indicator over one of the .afbrushes files in your video. The brushes category list does loop around, it has been like this for awhile now.

@DM1 Those brushes import fine for me from iCloud into the Pixel persona within Affinity Designer iPad.

Affinity Designer: 1.8

iPadOS: 13.3.1

I was using Apple Pencil and have the appropriate option turned on to show touches. AP 1.8.0.

@Lee D Lee, I was able to finally load them into Photo GM1.8 by opening Files app on top of Photo and doing the drag drop. Still unable to import via menu. Had them in Designer and removed, now unable to load back. Maybe a conflict between 1.7and 1.8 version?

@Cecil Those are vector based brushes so will only import into the Draw persona in Affinity Designer.

I missed that they were vector brushes in the initial post, thank you.  I do wish they would eliminate the endless scrolling of installed brushes.

Great. I had been able to load them in Designer previously prior to deleting 1.7 photo so I’m thinking its having the mix of versions. I still can’t load them on Designer 1.7 by any method from any location but have loaded them in new Photo. Time will tell.

edit: designer 1.8 still not importing abr 😩

Paul, My iPad is set to store locally. I’ve tried moving a brush to iCloud but get same greyed out result. If I drag and drop over brush panel the icon just bounces back to file folder as I release it. Strangely this drag drop approach worked on Photo after all other methods failed.

Ah now, you previously said you had deleted AP and re-installed the GM? Is that the position you are in with the GM installed?

If so, I would delete the GM and re-install direct from the App Store to reset the integration like Andy mentioned.

No, I currently have both store versions installed. So it’s not that.

Paul, I hope that’s it. It’s odd that Lee had no issues but others have confirmed they also cannot load abr.

its a bit like luts . Others were unable to load them but I had no problem doing so.

obviously differences in hardware and installed apps has an effect too.

Hey guys, so I updated affinity on iPad yesterday to the new 1.8 and brushes do import! Problem fixed 😄

Pleased to hear it. I am deleting Designer1.8 (drastic) and associated folders and will reinstall to see if that helps.
No... that didn’t help. Still won’t install!

Uninstalled a number of other apps and reinstalled Designer. All good now. Apparently one of the other apps was causing a conflict with Designer. Not sure which one though.

Be nice to have a list of Apps causing conflict.
