Hyphenation dictionaries on iPad

Hi, I have a simple question: is there any way to install hyphenation dictionaries in Affinity Designer (later Publisher, when it becomes available) for iPad?

Currently there's no way to add a custom dictionary to Designer for iOS, and AFAIK Apple do not offer an option to install custom dictionaries on iOS. There are a few 'hack' methods I've found online, but nothing I'd personally recommend.

I can't yet comment on the features of Publisher for iPad as we're still in the development phase, however I'll certainly raise this with the Dev team for consideration!

Even if you could, it wouldn't do anything. Hyphenation is a function of Publisher and is not present in Designer even on the desktop.

Well of course. My aim is currently to be able to open Publisher files on iPad. It sort of works, but not with the hyphenation. But this messes up completely the layout for most texts. As the file format is identical for all three Affinity apps, it makes sense to implement the reading engine in all three iPad apps, when they are available. So that's why I'm asking.

Good point. And if you have Publisher, and open a Publisher document in Designer on the desktop, it can perform automatic-hyphenation properly. (On Windows, the dictionaries are installed into a Common directory for all the Affinity applications, which allows Designer to find the Hyphenation and Spelling dictionaries that were installed for Publisher. I know that things work differently on MacOS, but it's probably also possible there.)

Yes. However Publisher does all those things on-line, it doesn't store the (soft) hyphens into the document. When I open the file in Designer on desktop, it does work (somehow, I suppose the Windows version uses the same dictionaries, I have currently no way to test it), but iPad doesn't do the hyphenation, not even with some generic dictionary.

I don't know what you mean by "does all those things on-line".

Designer and Publisher would use the same dictionaries unless you have changed the dictionary location for one of them and only installed custom dictionaries for one of the programs. But hyphenation and spelling use different dictionaries, so hyphenation probably won't work on iPad for you until you have the hyphenation dictionaries, which may not happen until you have Publisher installed there, too.
