I am using Affinity products on Windows 10 and the icons are damn ugly. Why this trend to use fully filled squares? Squares uses Adobe too but they are different. Also Microsoft on its Office products: also different. The Icon makes only the core of the square. I tried pinning Affinity icons in WIndows' start menu. it's even funnier now looking like a square within a square.

But I compare it even more with blender.  Maybe there is nothing special about the blender icon but is not a damn square. It has its personality. Affinity icons used to look like that too.

Think of it, you see less and less of your beautiful desktop if you fill it with squares. Plus the loss of their character.

Best regards,

An Affinity icon hater

This was discussed at length before they switched to these square icons, back when they had much better ones in a previous version.  Some users actually liked the new ones (there are some really strange people out there), others hate them, personally I think they are tolerable but pale compared to how good the old ones looked.  To me they look ugly mainly because I remember how good the old ones were.  I would love to see Serif go back to using the previous icons, but they seem to be trying to work within some imaginary constraints that require them to be square for some reason.

I think it has something to do with Apple's requirements for icons on the iPad versions and the desire to be consistent across the platforms (which is clearly misguided as Apple specifically wanted the iPad icons to be differentiated from the ones on macOS...  whatever).

I'm kind of surprised when these packages are aimed at design and creative professionals.

And I am surprised, that the icons are an annoyance for someone. ;) One advantage of their "ugliness" is, that you won't miss them between all the beautiful ones.

I think you've got too much time on your hands. ;)

Bug-squashing and development are both of far higher importance than icon aesthetics.

I will admit that the Motion icon looks slightly smaller.

Interesting! The Telegram icon looks smaller to me because it’s sandwiched between two larger icons, but the Motion icon looks the same size as the Affinity ones.
