Hi

i have a new Nikon P950, I imported some picture from my SD car to my IPad Pro and opened affinity photo

But  I get the following error message “failed to open file the file type is not supported”

Please see attachment for the full error

BTW my iPad can open and view the files without issue

I have also attached the file I was trying to open

Any help would be great and thanks in advance

kind regards

Our FAQ here explains that iPadOS 13 supports these RAW formats and the Nilkon P950 is not on that list.

The RAW file support in the iPad version is wholly controlled by "Apple Core Image Raw", which tends to add new cameras when new versions of the OS are rolled out (so perhaps only when iPadOS 14 is released)

Thank you so much for the quick reply, I will just use the iMac then and hope that won’t have the same issue

thanks again

kind regards

The list from Apple is for IOS and Mac devices, so if it doesn’t work on IOS it shouldn’t work on Mac. Did you get it to work on the Mac?

Hi Paul

Sorry for the late reply, yes the Mac and infinity photo can open the RAW file for editing.

As a note: In photos on the Ipad I can also open and edit the RAW files.

So not to sure what is happening here, if it works in the MAC with Infinity and Ipad Photos surely it should work with In affinity on the Ipad ?

Thanks again for all your help

Kind Regards

I found some sample images on line and I could not load them info AP and although I could add them to IOS photos they appeared blank.

I checked the same on MAC and PC versions of AP both of which were able to load the RAW images, so it is an IOS limitation.

That is not correct iOS always uses Apple's "Core image Raw" (no option) but Mac uses either Apples Core Image Raw" OR SerifLabs Raw Engine, which is the default. [Windows uses SerifLabs Raw Engine]

Consequently support for the Nikon P950 will not be the same from iOS to Mac unless they both use Core Image Raw, and is unsupported in iOS 13, as I stated. The Nikon Coolpix P950 camera raw format is not on the official 1.8.0 supported list so it may load but is not guaranteed to be correct.

Thanks Patrick, my bad, I misinterpreted Apples documentation.
