CincyBuilder Posted February 19, 2020 Posted February 19, 2020 I just purchased Affinity Photo but when I load any image and click on a tool tab to the right, all tabs except the primary tab disappear. Please see attached images. I am wondering what feature anyone would need for a tab to disappear without checking the box under View Studio. I keep resetting the tool, but the tabs keep disappearing as soon as I click on them. I cannot use colors, layers, any of them. This is a very annoying process, I wish it was addressed in your FAQ's section, I cannot be the only one with this issue. Please advice. Quote
Old Bruce Posted February 19, 2020 Posted February 19, 2020 Try using the menubar and go to View > Studio > Reset Studio. Quote Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.6 Affinity Designer 2.5.7 | Affinity Photo 2.5.7 | Affinity Publisher 2.5.7 | Beta versions as they appear. I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.
CincyBuilder Posted February 19, 2020 Author Posted February 19, 2020 (edited) That is what I do to get my tabs back (Reset Studio). But as soon as I get the tabs back and attempt to click on any of them the disappear again. I haven't been able to use a tool in my studio since purchase. By the way active tabs will also disappear, and so will the entire studio if I click on them. I then uninstalled and reinstalled the program and issue persists. After re-installation it did not ask me for license key and the settings I used previously seemed to still be there. Although I did not restart after uninstalling. Staff Callum Posted February 19, 2020 Staff Posted February 19, 2020 Hi CincyBuilder This is certainly an odd issue if possible could you try with a different keyboard? The TAB button hides the apps UI so I'm wondering if perhaps yours might be faulty and is causing this. Thanks C Quote Please tag me using @ in your reply so I can be sure to respond ASAP.
CincyBuilder Posted February 19, 2020 Author Posted February 19, 2020 (edited) I am running windows 8.1. I don't have another keyboard, but its a mouse click that making it disappear. You think it still might be a keyboard issue? I tried a different mousse, same issue. The tab button hides all UI including top, right and left when clicked. This is different only the tabs on the studio are disappearing. Edited February 19, 2020 by CincyBuilder Quote
Old Bruce Posted February 19, 2020 Posted February 19, 2020 Try a Clear User Data start. Quit Affinity Photo then start it while holding down the Control key until this window pops up. Click Clear and try opening a different image or make a new blank one. I did as you posted and the issue still persists. Quote
CincyBuilder Posted February 19, 2020 Author Posted February 19, 2020 I am assuming this installation is corrupt. I tried removing the program and re-installing but I did not restart the computer. And it did not ask me for the license code again. Should I un-install, restart and then re-install? How can I be sure I cleared out the license code and all remaining files? Quote
CincyBuilder Posted February 19, 2020 Author Posted February 19, 2020 Thank you all for your help, the problem is solved. I deleted the program, went to the program files: C:\Program Files\Affinity and deleted the common folder as well (and had to manually delete the desktop icon), then restarted the computer. Next, I re-installed the program. It still didn't ask me for my license code but, this time the tabs work properly! One odd thing of note, when I was reinstalling the installation progress bar never made it all the way to the end. It made it around 4/5 of the way and then a Success message popped up. I assume it was installed properly even through the progress bar never made it all the way. The only reason I bring this up is that I had an issue and second I don't recall ever seeing a progress bar not make it to the end before the success message. Oh well it seems to be working now. Again thank you. Quote

I don't run Windows but I too haven't seen that behaviour here on Mac, I am guessing that the bar didn't have time to update its position before the success was shown. All is well that ends well. CincyBuilder Posted February 19, 2020 Author Posted February 19, 2020 (edited) I installed twice (the first time without restart). Both times the progress bar did not make it to the end, but the Success message did show at the end. The second installation that worked, made it a tad further toward 100% than the first time. Might not be a big deal, but if something else is wrong that might be the smoking gun. I suspect (and hope) all is right. Edited February 19, 2020 by CincyBuilder Quote
