Cross platform licensing

Recommended Posts

First up have to say that I love the affinity suite of products. I am currently in the process of switching from mac to windows as a lot of my work is headed toward motion graphics and 3d. I have a lot of software that I use on a daily basis and have fortunately found that the vast majority of them have cross platform licensing which means that I don’t have to re-purchase the software for the windows platform. It would be great if the Affinity suite could do something similar. I realise that this is not currently possible but I hope that it is something that you will consider. Or at least in the meantime if there was some discount that you could offer to customers who already own the affinity suite on the mac and are look to purchase it again for windows.

many thanks

Dave

If you contact affinityorders@serif.com they may be able to arrange some kind of discount if you are purchasing all 3 programs at the same time.

I hope Serif won't do this, because it inevitably increases the price of the license. And even for those users who are not interested in cross platforming at all.

Affinity Store (MSI/EXE): Affinity Suite (ADe, APh, APu) 2.4.0.2301

This isn't hard.  3D Coat has standalone licensing across several tiers and a combined cross-platform license that costs more.  It's up to the user if they want to pay more for the convenience, which makes sense and still generates revenue for the company.  It's not hard.

Given that Microsoft and Apple take a cut of all sales through their stores, it seems it would be a strong encouragement to buy direct from Serif if they would offer cross-platform licensing as a perk. They wouldn't have to increase prices to generate extra revenue - it wouldn't be as much as two full licenses, but it would be more than via somebody else's app store. Having to buy a separate license for my third-string device (a Surface Go that will only really see much use when I'm able to start traveling again) feels a bit archaic. Yes, it's currently only $25, but I'm deciding what to pick up before the discount ends - I already own Designer for Mac and Designer and Photo for iPad, so do I get Photo and Publisher for Mac? Photo for Mac and Windows? I'm a fairly happy Creative Cloud Photo Plan subscriber, so these wouldn't replace those apps for me, but I'd like to support Serif for being generous at a difficult time.

I'm not sure that a Surface Go will run Affinity apps that you purchase from Serif, unless you also upgrade the OS from Windows 10 S to Windows 10 Pro.

Easy fix, have 2 license options available. One with cross platform compatibility and one without. I haven't bought Affinity products only because they don't have a cross platform license.
