How can picture layer (not solid colored shape) be transformed into trapeziod with symmetry? I lost hours trying to figure it out. Only way to do it is by using perspective of mesh wrap that do not support symmetry for some strange reason?

image.png.a2c322c67541edc32d1dc1ac8715dc33.pngI just want do to as shown in picture but without the need to move left and right points separately and thus loosing precision.

Hi dave2017,

No, it's not feasible. Affinity Designer is strictly a 2D design/illustration software. Isometric drawings are simply 2d representations of 3d objects in a 2d plane, there's no true 3D depth/volume (or z axis) involved. A 3d modelling software implies a different architecture/heavy changes to the current app at several levels. There's no plans to move in that direction.

You can't use the trapezoid to conform a pixel layer, the analogy "Oil and Water do not mix" springs to mind BUT, you can use a Trapezoid shape as a guide.

  1. Make sure snapping is on, (The perspective tool snaps to the grid not the trapezoid.)
  2. Draw your squiggly shape
  3. Select the trapezoid tool and shape it to how you want it to look, this will be a kind of a guide
  4. Select the squiggly shape
  5. select the perspective tool and place the corner points at the corners of the trapezoid.

Honestly i just need perspective tool to work in symmetry when I drag one of the left points that one of the right points work. I absolutely don't need need shapes. I need photos distorted form a rectangle into isosceles trapezoid.

@firstdefenceThank you for the replay. But I am not trying to match an exact trapezoid shape, I am trying to distort a photo into it and it's annoying to have to drag different parts of image just to match a shape. Especially that i can't just scale two points in mesh warp tool, when I think about it that would be Ideal. Ability to do an mirrored move of two points of a mesh warp tool, also mesh warp could use constrains to axis.

I will make a request nothing else to do here it seams.

There may be more creative people here than me 😉 and I agree perspective tool does need some symmetry options, another request might be to have "transform to shape" where certain shapes like the trapezoid conforms the image to it's bounds, now that would be quick and cool.

If I can work something else out I'll post.

note: it might be possible to create a macro in Affinity Photo to automate this process so a single click gets repeatable output. Setting it up might take a few minutes but once you have the macro you'd be good to go.
