Ps brushes slow by 2500

Recommended Posts

Hi, this is a problem we have some time by most beta's that several PS brushes loading very slow, you can't change format of the brush when in use.
This happend with mouse and/or painttablet.  The brush format in this case is mostly around the 2500 pixel.  Lower format around 1000 px is working perfect.
Tested in beta 1.8.0.555 with windows ink on and off

Hey studio97,

2500 pixels is pretty big to be brushing with. I've just created a 20,000 px x 20,000 px document in Photoshop and Affinity Photo and using a standard round brush I'm seeing very similar performance issues across both apps.

At this size brush, wouldn't you normally be stamping as opposed to painting lots of strokes? I'm not sure if we're just asking too much here.

Hi Chris, the problem with this brush we had several times in beta state, I think its a strange thing that maby will not be solved in short time.
To your question about lots of strokes, no these are mostly stamp brushes, threes, water and so on. Yes I know I can make it smaller and edit it afterwards and almost they are PS brushes :)

Out of curiosity - did you ever had this working well at this massive size? Stamp or not - 2500 px is huge for brush. At this point youre better of doing some photo bashing.... Anyways - have you got that working well in the past?

Yes, I have it really working in the 1.7.3.481 without freesing the system or blocking other commands.  ;)

Yep, 2500 is way too big (my first read was... ok, that post is crazy) , but not for stamping techniques. A lot of collage makers and other designers work so. And really interesting stuff can be done with those techniques.

Any performance improvement in the brush system is very welcome. What'd benefit your workflow would also help us digital painters using way smaller brushes. My machine typically wont allow me using more than 300px/400px brush sizes, with virtually any software. Which is kindda fine for my work, though. When needing that size of areas to cover for first concepts I just block and lasso fill even and whatever is faster, then is 100% typical brush work (but the activity is a whole other ball game).

I think you should be able to get away doing the odd stamp at 2,500 px but if you're working on a huge canvas where you're doing multiple stamps at that size then I'd expect a bit of a performance hit.

I've just made a 10,000 x 10,000 px canvas and with a 2,500 px brush I can get away with 3 or 4 stamps before I notice the performance drop.

I can use them in 1.7.3.481 without to much slow down thats fine. But in the leatest beta's I see this drop everytime again sorry.

Windows INK is a great problem if you use a paint tablet. I have also done this for some weeks.
