Behaviour of Gradient Tool

Recommended Posts

Hi,

It would be great if the behaviour of the gradient tool was the same as in Designer.
In Photo, you cannot adjust the gradient nodes once you placed the gradient and changed the tool. This is a bit annoying.

For those of you who now come with the argument that this is just the way it is and the whole thing is a pixel tool,
please note that you can also change the shapes via the Arrow tool at any time after they have been placed in the layer.

Don't know what tool you are using but to me the fill/gradient tool is in all three programs the same and fully editable

You did not understand. You cannot edit the gradient in Photo, once you have placed it. In Designer, you can.

Photo. Insert gradient. You have handles.

Photo. You switch tool.

Photo. Need to change the previously added gradient. Got o gradient tool... ooops. No handles!

In Designer, you can do this of course.
But in Photo not, while you can change the arrows afterwards you have added via the arrow tool.
So this kind of vector tool in Photo.

I think, the gradient tool should work the same as in Designer.

You cannot edit the gradient in Photo

It depends on what type of object you apply it to. If you apply it to a Pixel layer, as shown in your image, the adjustment is made and cannot be edited (destructive adjustment). If you apply a gradient to an object/shape (eg a rectangle, as suggested by haakoo), the adjustment is non-destructive, and its parameters can be edited again.

As @Pšenda pointed out, gradients applied to a pixel layer are rasterized when switching tools, and no longer editable.  The screenshots from @JeffreyWalther show a gradient being applied to a pixel layer, which prevents further editing.

To make this work, create a shape instead (rectangle or whatever) and apply the gradient to the shape.  Then you can edit it by selecting that shape again when switching back to the gradient tool.
