We users don't know how many versions that might be, but 1.8.0 is in beta now, and there will probably be at least 1.8.1 and maybe other 1.8.y releases before we see the next major version, which is probably 1.9 (but we don't know for sure). We don't know how many 1.x versions may follow that, before Serif delivers 2.0. When 2.0 is released, you can keep using the last 1.x version, or pay to purchase 2.0.
