Murfee
Hi, is there any way to assign a custom bullet or number style to the bullet & number buttons on the context toolbar?
GarryP
I don’t think so (I'd be happy to be proved wrong), but you can create a Paragraph Style with your required bullet/numbering formatting and apply that from the Paragraph Style drop-down on the Context Toolbar. Murfee
Just now, GarryP said: I don’t think so (I'd be happy to be proved wrong), but you can create a Paragraph Style with your required bullet/numbering formatting and apply that from the Paragraph Style drop-down on the Context Toolbar. Thanks Garry but I already know that, I was just hoping to change the buttons to speed up workflow... a single click on a button is a lot quicker than scrolling through a list when there are a lot of formats in a complex document
GarryP
I think it might be more useful if the two buttons were consolidated into one with a drop-down – see attached image – containing the two existing defaults and a list of paragraph styles that have Bullet/Numbering (Bulbering? Can I make that a word?) formatting applied. That way the user could create any number of user-defined styles – using the existing functionality – and apply the bulbering formatting – and only the bulbering formatting, nothing else – from any defined style with a quick two-click process. It’s not single-click, as you suggest, but two clicks (without much scrolling, unless you have a boat-load of bulbered styles) isn’t much of a chore. I haven’t put too much thought into this but it sounds good to me. Murfee

I do a lot of legal documents and reports that are distributed as PDF. I would prefer the option to just have the first level in the dropdown, then increase the level by the keyboard shortcuts. I need several different numbering & bulleted styles 😕 If all the levels were in the dropdown it would be a fair bit of scrolling...particularly if you are in a hurry. My initial question was to make it easier for the main numbering & bullets that I use most.
GarryP
I don’t usually use bullets or numbering much so I’m not the best person to comment on what a good workflow should/could be. I don’t think there will be a way that’s best for everyone but I do think that the current functionality – basic defaults or creating styles – needs something in-between that makes things a bit easier for the ‘average’ user. Maybe someone else has a brilliant suggestion that would work really well. Maybe the developers are already working on something.

Maybe but I am not going to hold my breath 😂 I think a list creator panel would be a good solution, a little bit like the way Word does it. That way you could create your list without having to create a style for each level, you could choose numbering, letters & bullets as needed for each different level. (Some of my lists have multiple levels) Then choose just the top level to show in the text styles panel or assign to the "Bulbering" button.
