Affinity Photo – A Look At LUT’s

This is a look at how LUT’s are made, saved and used.

It was originally written in June, but I forgot about it. Now some features have visually changed in Affinity Photo, but it still works in the same way.

Affinity Photo – Written Tutorial

Making A Vintage Style Image Using a Macro with LUTs, Textures and Adjustments

Someone wanted to be able to make vintage style image but be able to repeat the process. They also wanted to include textures and adjustments. I suggested using a Macro that included LUTs, Adjustments, Live Filters, and textures. This tutorial will hopefully explain how I would make the Macro.

A Written Affinity Photo Tutorial

Beginners Guide pt 18 – Adding A Gradient To A Layer Mask

I have been seeing a few requests for help recently, from people wanting to know how to fade an image from one edge. Be it from the left or right side or from the top or bottom of an image. Some people wanting it to just fade in opacity and others wanting it to fade to a complete removal of pixels. Mainly so they can add text over the fading areas, so it is easier to read.

Hopefully this will help those people and others wanting to do something like this.

Affinity Publisher - Beginners Guide

A look at starting a new document, using default documents, Presets and Templates

Are you new to Affinity Publisher (or even Affinity Photo and Designer, as they work in the same way)?

When you look at the 'New Document' screen do you wonder what are these Presets and/or Templates?

What is the difference between them, and which is best to use?

WRITTEN TUTORIAL

Affinity Photo

A look at blurring the background using a Field Blur

When it comes to blurring the background of an image or a composition, most tutorials I see overlook the Field Blur filter. They use Tilt Shift or maybe Gaussian Blur with Mask added.

I think the Field Blur gives you a bit more control, so I would advise checking it out, when you next want the background looking blurred.

Affinity Software Tutorial - Beginners Guide - Using resources that claim to be just for Photoshop Users

There are many resources on the Internet, that new users of Affinity Photo, Affinity Designer and Affinity Publisher may be put off from checking out and using. Just because the Internet search and other adverts make out, they are ‘Photoshop’ specific.

This is just not the case, there is so much free stuff out there that non-Photoshop users can take advantage of.

This written tutorial looks some of these resources, things like; Overlays, Textures, Brushes, Backgrounds, Fonts, SVG files, Mock-Ups or Templates, Image Files and Presets or LUTs.

I have included, hyper-links to many video tutorials about using these resources. A few by me but most by other people.

Affinity Publisher Tutorial

Beginners Guide - A Look At Using Guide Lines and other Guides

Although this is an Affinity Publisher tutorial, both Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo use most if not all the same guidelines and guides. So, even though they may have these features in different places, they will work in the same way.

In this tutorial I will be looking at the aids that can be found, to help with your projects layout and alignment. These include….

Margin Guides, Bleed Guides, Ruler Guides, Visual Guides, Grid Guides, and Column Guides

Although visible with-in Affinity Programs, they do not appear when you print out or export your project as a PDF. They are all just Guides to help you out.

With regard to basic changes to Brushes, on Page 2 where you note the "barbell": In Windows, if you go to Edit / Preferences / Assistant / Brush tool sharing, Smart sharing between tools will ensure you get your brushes loaded into all three tools when you import them into Photo or Designer. Ditto for Assets. You won't have to import them into each of the products.

The barbell - or more likely chain link - indicates the brushes are available in all products, when supported.

I have copies of all of my assets, brushes, swatches, etc. After I discovered this import feature, I deleted and reloaded all of the items that had no barbell. I now have them in Photo and Designer. It's a great feature if one wants to ensure compatibility between the products for your work. I quite like the feature.

Oh, and you can also drag and drop items to arrange them alphabetically, in case no one noticed.
