is the spell checker enabled in Affinity Designer free trial?

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums, Mike.

Yes, spell checking is functional. The trial versions of the Affinity applications include all the functions of the purchased versions, with the exception of the StudioLink function in Publisher which requires purchased versions of Photo and/or Designer.

The first thing to check when spell checking isn't working is that you have the spelling language set correctly. Put the cursor in a word of text, and then look in the Character studio panel. Scroll down to the Language settings, and see what Spelling Language you have specified. For example,

Next, you might try intentionally misspelling a word. Then use the menu Text > Spelling > Check Spelling While Typing and your misspelled word should have a red underline.

I also note that one needs to "Show Character" in order for that property to be seen in the studio panel.

Glad you have it sorted, Mike.

That field is a standard part of the Character studio panel. You may, though, need to View > Studio > Character or Show Character if you don't have that particular studio panel enabled. I don't think that panel is enabled by default in Designer.
