Freehand Selection Tool more similar to PS Lasso

I've been using Photoshop since 92 and one of my most used tools it the lasso tool. I've been using the beta version of Affinity Photo for a few weeks and the most troublesome aspect for me so far is the Freehand Selection tool. The Lasso tool has the option to click a point and move to the next point until the entire selection is complete. You can see your selection being created as you move. With the Freehand Selection tool rather than just seeing the line your creating you have "marching ants" with the start point connected to the end point. For complicated (and simple) selections this is extremely distracting. It really complicates the selection process. Is there an option coming sometime in the future to have this tool work more like the Lasso tool in PS and loose the marching ants until the selection is complete? So far other than this, I'm really liking your program.

This was requested a couple of times already. You can also create straight lines with it pressing ⇧ (shift) and clicking on canvas, but there's still some differences.

I'm moving it to the Feature Requests section. I've also edited the title a little to make it more clear so i can also add it to the Common Feature Requests thread.

The polygon lasso tool would be extremely helpful in difficult areas where there are hardly differences in the colour.
The pen tool is also able to create a selection in "polygon mode ", but:
When the first selection is ready, it is not possible to add further selections.
Or is this possible?
Video Tutorials about the selection methods would be helpful.

I am evaluating Affinity as a Photoshop replacement or adjunct, and having the Photoshop lasso functionality is very important to me. Your Shift + Click suggestion actually works well. If I could set a preference to make it the default without having to hold down the SHIFT key that would be great. A simple checkbox option to swap which of the two modes is default and which requires SHIFT would work.

A bit off topic but, a lasso/freehand selection of node for Affinity Designer would also be amazing, I use it often in AI.

Yes, "Freehand Selection Tool" in combination with SHIFT for straight lines, works great, but what we need more is Magnetic Lasso Tool.

Welcome to Affinity Forums

The Freehand Selection Tool was already updated/expanded quite a few versions ago. It now includes three types of selection: Freehand, Polygonal  and Magnetic. You can switch between them using the buttons in the Type section in the context toolbar (leftmost buttons).
