hbrch
Hey, I just switched to Affinity Designer and can't seem to find a option to reduce the size of the selected tool. Probably a dumb question, but still would love some help.
GarryP
Welcome to the forums. The answer will probably depend on what you mean by “size” and what you mean by “the selected tool”. Can you give a specific example of what you mean please? If you show us what you have, what you want to do to it, and what you get (and why it is wrong) we can probably help more. hbrch
Thanks for welcoming me. the tools right now are pretty big, which makes it hard to see some thinner lines, just wanted to know if it is possible to make them a bit smaller. Woulda thought that the option for it was "Tool Handle Size", but that doesn't seem to be it.
Old Bruce
On occasion I see this on my Mac, not just with Affinity applications. The only way I can get back to normal size is to restart the machine. I think it is a combination of using the Wacom tablet and some 'gestures'. I don't know what triggers it and it is maddening. hbrch
Ah ok, don't have a drawing tablet connected right now so that isn't the problem, at least not for me. Tried reinstalling the program, but the problem is still there.
GarryP
Can you show us a screen-grab of the pointer next to some of the other UI so we can see the relative sizes? Also, which OS are you using?

Staff MEB Posted February 7, 2020 Staff Share Posted February 7, 2020 Hi @hbrch, Welcome to Affinity Forums Thanks for reporting it and for the screenshots. I'm not sure how they got in that state. Have you changed the Windows display scale in Windows preferences? Are you using a multiple monitor config? If so what's the display scale for each monitor? Also does your computer has an Nvidia graphics cars and you changed some settings in Nvidia's Control Panel? I'm checking with the dev team what might be causing this. Staff MEB Posted February 7, 2020 Staff Share Posted February 7, 2020 Hi hbrch, Can you provide the information i requested above regarding the Windows display scale and multi-monitor configs as well as the Nvidia Control Panel in case you has one (i was editing the post while you replied)? Thanks Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software
hbrch
Yeah sure. I have two monitors connected right now, my main monitor is on normal 100% scale, the second one on 300%. Also thought that it might be because of that, but already disconnected the second one and restarted the computer, didn't change anything. Staff MEB Posted February 7, 2020 Staff Share Posted February 7, 2020 Hi hbrch, Do you happen to have a Nvidia graphics card? Have you changed any setting in NVIDIA Control panel? Does the weird size of the cursor affects other apps or only Affinity? Sorry all the questions but that info may help us. Thanks for your support. hbrch
No problem. Yes I have a NVIDIA card, haven't changed anything in the control panel though. Tried some other Programs, the cursor stayed normal, so it seems to only affect Affinity Designer.
Staff MEB Posted February 7, 2020 Staff Share Posted February 7, 2020 @hbrch How did you disconnected the second monitor? Did you left the (HDMI?) cable still connected to the computer? Can you try disconnect the cable if you didn't do so the first time and restart the computer please? Does the issue persists? Thanks. hbrch
Just did that and the cursor went normal, so as it seems having a second monitor connected is the problem(?).
Staff MEB Posted February 7, 2020 Staff Share Posted February 7, 2020 No, it's not directly related with the second monitor but something with the Window's scaling options. We are still looking at this. Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software
Staff MEB Posted February 7, 2020 Staff Share Posted February 7, 2020 Hi @hbrch I know you are using Windows 10 but which version? Have you set any Custom scaling on the Advanced scaling settings link/page in Display Preferences section? R C-R
14 hours ago, Old Bruce said: On occasion I see this on my Mac, not just with Affinity applications. I doubt this would apply to Windows, but when this happens on your Mac, try opening System Preferences > Accessibility to the Display setting & wiggle the Cursor size slider a bit. The pointer size should change in realtime, getting larger as the slider is moved to the right & smaller as it is moved to the left. I think the overly large cursor is caused by some minor corruption in a cached preference setting somewhere, which wiggling the slider hopefully will correct without the need to restart your Mac. Staff Chris J Posted February 17, 2020 Staff Share Posted February 17, 2020 Hi @hbrch, I have fixed an issue relating to this. Hopefully it will now work correctly if you try the next beta (or upgrade to 1.8 once released). Thanks for your patience.
