Hi,

We are pleased to announce that a new Customer Beta of Affinity Publisher (1.8.0.549) is now available as a download from the link above.

As this is a 'Stability and General Testing' beta it is considered to be not suitable for production use. This means that you should not attempt to use it for commercial purposes or for any other activity where you may be adversely affected by the application failing, including the total loss of any documents.

We hope you enjoy the beta, and as always, if you've got any problems installing or running up, please don't hesitate to post in this thread.

Any problems actually using this version please make a new topic in this forum and we'll get back to you as soon as we can. Please feel free to leave general suggestions and comments in the Discussion Forum

Many thanks for your continued feedback.

Just curious but when did Preferences > Auto-Correct acquire a pre-populated list of misspellings & replacements, & what is the source of that list? It seems to consist largely of a number of random simple misspellings like "make" spelled as "amke" & "a lot" spelled as"alot."

Preferences > Abbreviations also is now pre-populated with a short list of abbreviations. Most of the included ones seem common enough to be included ... except for "S.P.Q.R." (Senatus Populusque Romanus, “The Senate and People of Rome”). Aside from a few scholarly works, there seems to be very few instances of it in U.S. literature (when it does appear it is usually written as "SPQR" without the periods), plus a quick Google search turned up this😮

Windows has had that prepopulated list since at least 1.7.3, probably earlier.

I just rechecked 1.7.3 for Macs & while "English" (which for me means U.S. English) is unpopulated, "English (United Kingdom)" is pre-populated. The U.K. list in 1.7.3 appears to be identical to the U.S. one in 1.8.0.549, so I guess it was just copied over as part of the 'updated' translations.

Also, FWIW since I use the macOS System Preferences > Keyboard > Text 'replace with' feature to automatically replace a few words I often mistype, I wondered which would take precedence if I added a different auto-correct entry in APU vs. what I already have in System Preferences. In case anyone is wondering, System Preferences overrides the APU entry.

Is there a way to test the Beta 1.8 for free?

No the beta is for customers only, sorry. Once 1.8.0 is released you should be able to redownload the trials (in your account) and install 1.8 and try them again (even if you have tried 1.7.3)
