I use numbered headings in my document. For example: "1.2.3 Sub-chapter title". They are auto-generated by my paragraph style (heading3). Unfortunately, I haven't found a way to transfer this numbering to my TOC. Only the text part of my heading3 and the page number shows up. But the heading number doesn't transfer.

Is this yet a missing feature or did I just overlook how it works?

Thanks,
Frank

Welcome to the forums.

I don’t think there’s a way to transfer the paragraph numberings from the text to the TOC, but I would be interesting in reading otherwise as it might come in useful for a document I’m working on. (I just replicated the numbering system in the TOC styles. Extra work but only needed once.)

I think that your  approach of duplicating the numbering style for the TOC styles is the only approach that works, currently.

Thanks Gentlemen, I must admit that I expected this answer. For everybody who wants to write a master thesis or any similar kind of document there are very few options. Trusty LaTeX maybe or heavy-weight Adobe InDesign. I still remember the good old days when FrameMaker had not been bought by Adobe yet. Sigh. However, I don't give up my hope that Affinity Publisher may fill this gap one day ...

I think the latest Publisher 1.8 Beta has improvements in this area, and automatically creates numbered heading styles for you that will carry the numbers into the TOC automatically. I haven't played with that yet, though.
