In Affinity Photo 1.7.3 on a Mac, in the Photo Persona, when I adjust brush hardness to any softer value - even to 0 - on a basic brush, OR choose "soft brush" as the brush option, the brush hardness remains at 100% although its diameter decreases. Being new to Affinity Photo, I am quite sure the failure is mine since I see no other reports of this in the forum, but what am I doing wrong? Thanks.

Hi emichaelb,

Welcome to the forums :)

Could you please confirm for me, what Tool are you using with the soft brush please? Could you please provide a screenshot/screen recording showing this issue for me?

Many thanks in advance!

Thanks for your reply. Interesting turn of events. When I started to create a screen recording you requested to help demonstrate the problem, of course the problem had disappeared. After experimenting I discovered the problem to have been caused by having previously run, and closed, SilverFast SE Plus for scanning prints. Somehow SilverFast causes the APhoto brush tool (invoked by pressing the "b" key) to not not soften (feather) its edges (using it in a black mask, btw). When I reboot the computer and open APhoto, all is well. When I close it, open SilverFast and close it, and then reopen APhoto, the problem reappears (altho not 100% of the time !?!??).

I won't waste any more of your time on this. Just a weirdness.

Thanks again, I really appreciate your offer to help.

My sincerest apologies for the delayed response here.

Many thanks for letting me know, I'll pass this information through to our QA team in order to investigate this further, as if there's a conflict between these apps it's certainly something we should know about!

If you do have any further issues don't hesitate to reply here, or alternatively start a new thread :)
