Perspective Tool Crashes

GiftedR

Recommended Posts

Hello @GiftedR,

Welcome to this forum,
it looks like you want an empty layer with a white background  want to edit in perspective, that does not work.
fill the layer with a color other than white and apply that Perspective Tool, now it should work.
Affinity Photo should not crash as shown in your video. (I have no crash, neither in the purchase version nor in the current beta version)
Try the following:
Start Affinity Photo by holding down CTRL key and reset Affinity-Photo.
Note this when resetting Affinity all user settings will be lost.

Cheers

Hey GiftedR, welcome to the Affinity Forums.

I got the crash after dragging the corner node around for a few seconds. I'll inform the developers—thank you.

*Note* this only seems to happen for me on a portrait document. I've tried all different sizes but only portrait seems to crash 👀

We have made fixes/improvements to this area (Perspective Tool crash on portrait document ) of the program in the latest customer beta. If you would like to try these changes the beta software is available in the forum posts listed below.

The latest beta builds are downloadable from links at the top of each of these beta forum posts.

These betas install parallel, next to the release version (they do not overwrite your release) and so the fixes can be tried in the beta without affecting your normal workflow in the release version.

Once these programs have been through a full beta process the change will be released in a future free 1.8.1/1.8.2 update/patch to all customers.

@AJW - I have been asked to pick up an email that you sent in regarding this.

The crash report I received suggests you may be using the colour picker—can you confirm this? Can you kindly crash the app again and send me the newest crash report.

Also, can you confirm if the crash is when using the Filters > Distort > Perspective (destructive filter) or if it crashes with the Live Perspective filter?

Also, this is a Windows thread. In future, I would encourage you to post in a thread relevant to your OS :)

Thanks for confirming :)

I've been trying this morning with the live and destructive filters in the retail and beta and I'm not able to reproduce it. I was informed it happened when you hit Apply, is that correct?

Also, the OP was posting the crash for a portrait document, which is now fixed. Were you also working with portrait documents? If you have an .afphoto file that I could try, I'd really appreciate you attaching it. Thanks :)

Thanks for checking.  Yes it was a portrait document.  I have tried to replicate the crash today without success!  Using either live filter or Filters, Distort, or even the Perspective tool it worked fine every time.

I then tried with Preferences set again to 'Enable Metal Compute....' and again all worked as it should.

I'm assuming it was some oddity in how I did things before.  All OK now.  Thanks
