Thank you...these were a bit of a fight to get them to work properly...but worth it in the end... ...learn't a few more tricks! I was trying to update 'creating raster brushes' doc/PDF that was never uploaded as 1.7 introduced new functionality) but have been a bit distracted with this! little project.... and playing around with nested symbols!...there are a few issues 1.73 when you use symbols to create styles...Works much better in 1.8 though. StuartRc
Thanks Patrick... much appreciated..and made me laugh! When I finish the Raster Brush document you will be able to create the same stuff!!...The patterns are a by-product of the base textures in the Camouflage I and organic brush sets for Camouflage II....I must have over a 1000 seamless textures!...from all the other brushes...it's useful to know that they can be adapted for something else.. and yes..again very impressed with your images.... I'll be honest, though, I'm not sure how I could use this set because it's so much part of your very unique style but thank you for sharing! Thanks! I can see your point I do build some weird stuff! The initial idea was to move away from creating 'unique' individual seamless patterns for brush base textures and adopt a 'stacking' process in a single object (rectangle or Symbol). This way you can mix your options...rather than redraw each element(helps to have some seamless patterns though! ) Then experiment with colour | transparency | layer blending modes | rotation etc..to enhance patterns. Once the style is created the colour ramps I transparency can be further adjusted with layer adjustments..so they can be any colour/tint etc. Symbol | Rectangle (Mask) | Group | Vector Elements but add additional grouped elements as required Attempted to adopt a similar process using the Appearance Panel but that just did not work correctly. StuartRc
Thanks again! Scale and rotation with the bitmap fill tool + layer adjustments gives you a lot of leverage with the patterns. Once a colour theme is defined...Layer adjustments will do the rest... StuartRc
2 minutes ago, Hilltop said: A few new techniques, as in, not part of the manual or other user guides? I hope so! I have been documenting information on 'creating raster brushes' for some time as a supplement to the 'creating vector brushes' which is in the tutorial section but with the onset of 1.7 The brush engine changed significantly and needed to rework/add new sections. There are a lot of different methods you can adopt to create brushes both vector and raster as I built the brush library I logged a few...but I am always finding more..Still learning what you can do with the subbrush menu...But here are a few options for the 1.7 brush engine: A. Multiple Layered symbols used to construct base textures..which is part of this thread to speed up a process and experiment a bit more. B. Look at resolution and colour imported base textures affect the quality of patterns C. Comments made by @VectorWhiz in the Camouflage II thread with regards to blending edges. I used this idea previously on pixel based brush nozzles and grouping vector elements to set transparency. However I have also found that it is possible to use the 'subbrush options' by adding a basic round brush and adjusting the transparency and hardness values D. Create a random brush nozzle using the 'erase' function in the subbrush tab E. Import high contrast greyscale images to base texture options F. Create hatching brushes (lines and dashes on nozzles!) by duplicating the brush, drag into subbrush and rotate the angle to 25%...less nozzles more hatching control G. Change opacity of parent brush to allow subbrush to dominate the pattern. ...Pattern base textures don't work very well in subbrushes.
