Pšenda
Profile settings in fx dialog (Bevel/Emboss/3D) change the shape of the transition between objects. But what is the shape of the transition, if Profile is removed? Thanks P.S. None/Removed Profile I would expect look like this - like turning off the effect. So any Profile there, even after it is removed, which one, what shape does it have? Staff Dan C Posted January 29, 2020 Staff Share Posted January 29, 2020 Hi Pšenda 44 minutes ago, Pšenda said: But what is the shape of the transition, if Profile is removed? With the profile removed, Affinity will use our default settings for the 'Type' you have selected at the top of this dialog - unfortunately this isn't something I can share publicly, my apologies. 44 minutes ago, Pšenda said: P.S. None/Removed Profile I would expect look like this - like turning off the effect. As mentioned above, 'remove profile' is not the same as not having a profile/a flat profile - you can see this if you add a bevel FX to an object, then set the profile as follows - 44 minutes ago, Pšenda said: So any Profile there, even after it is removed, which one, what shape does it have? Unfortunately this isn't something I can provide, it's simply a 'Pillow' emboss effect profile that isn't shown in the custom profile box. From my personal testing, I can closely replicate the 'no profile' look with the following settings: No profile - Custom settings - I hope this helps! Yes, thank you very much :-) 54 minutes ago, Dan C said: flat profile - you can see this if you add a bevel FX to an object, then set the profile as follows In my opinion, flattening the profile has the same function as reducing the Effect Depth. 54 minutes ago, Dan C said: With the profile removed, Affinity will use our default settings for the 'Type' you have selected I think it's not so much a choice of Type, because the shape of the transition for the Inner / Outer part remains the same with Emboss. Importantly, in Remove profile the shape of the gradient is applied to the "entire" transient, that is, to the Outer and Inner part together, whereas for the Selected Profile, the gradient is applied to each part of the transient. Standard profile settings: The profiles for the Outer part are mirrored (rotated) from profile for Inner part, which is nicely seen in the atypical shape of the profile. Remove Profile: It is a pity, that it is not possible to specify it for the set own profiles - to apply to the whole transition in the Emboss effect, and not as in the current case, when applied twice, to each part separately.
