CKC Studios Posted January 22, 2020 Posted January 22, 2020 Just checking in to see if the process has been streamlined for a quicker export of RAW photos from Apple Photos into Affinity? Would like a quicker option. Option #1 of exporting an unmodified copy from Photos to the desktop and then into Affinity is a little annoying. 'Too many steps" Option #2 Sending from photos edit tab modifies the original file which I do not want. I like to save the RAW originals. I also tried this option and tried to save it as an afphoto.file which worked even though the "save as" option was not available but I can not find where it was actually saved to. It says it was saved as an Apple Photos Document but I can't find it anywhere. Anyway of dragging and dropping a RAW file from Apple photos right into AF without it turning into a TIFF file? Thank you Quote

No edit of any file stored in an Apple Photos' library alters the original 'master' file in any way. That includes both edits done with an external editor like AP & those done with the 'native' editing tools in the app itself. All edits are non-destructive in the sense that it is always possible in the Apple Photos Edit mode to apply the 'revert to the original' option. However, this is an "all or nothing" option -- there is no way to undo just some of the edits made to it. The way this works is complicated, but if you are interested the Tidbits article The Ins and Outs of Non-destructive Editing in Photos for Mac and iOS explains everything about the process, including some things to be aware of when editing RAW files. BTW, currently editing Apple Photos library items with AP is not functioning correctly for Catalina users. Serif is working on a fix for this but until it is available, if you are running Catalina your option 1 is the only reliable way to do that.
