Frequency Separation Very sluggish on Catalina

Recommended Posts

Hi. Anyone else finding frequency separation very sluggish on Catalina (10.15.2)? Affinity photo is at 1.7.3

On my new MBP 16 inch with i9 blah blah the performance is very underwhelming.

In fact, when using FS my tired old 12 inch MacBook performs more smoothly and faster.

I've tried turning GPU on and off. Problem persists.

Would appreciate any thoughts and or advice as I'm seriously considering a return for the MBP.

Cheers.

There is a free app called gfxCardStatus that shows the current GPU being used and allows to to switch between the Inal and AMD GPU and also adjust the switching options. Yese please try using the OpenGL rather than metal and see if the performance improves

Ah OK. Perfect @DWright. I have installed that.
I did check the option to NOT auto switch in preferences but that seems to have reverted.

Now in GFX CardStatus I have selected discrete only.

In AP preferences I have 'Only use integrated GPU' ticked with OpenGL display selected.
'Enable Metal compute acceleration' is now unchecked.

Presume that is all correct.
I'll experiment more and pop any comments in here.

Thanks for your help - much appreciated!
