UI too small

Recommended Posts

Already posted this in the initial Publisher .8 beta thread: The UI (buttons and text) are roughly 20% smaller than in the .7 versions -- hope this is a bug and not intentional, because it makes the software harder to use.

I'm not seeing that here:

(1.7.3 on the left, 1.8.163 on the right.)

There's an option in Preferences - User Interface to enlarge the Font UI (but not the toolbar icons as far as I can see):

I've got both of mine set to Large.

Affinity Photo 2.0.3,  Affinity Designer 2.0.3, Affinity Publisher 2.0.3, Mac OSX 13, 2018 MacBook Pro 15" Intel.

Maybe it's just on high res screens? I have a 5K iMac and the difference is significant.

I know about the font size option, the problem in my case is that is has gotten harder to quickly "aim" and click on the buttons and options.

Only solution for my screen is to reduce the resolution, but when I do, my whole system gets "larger", not only the Affinity software, and I don't want that.

When the Publisher beta came out last year, I took screenshots -- I'll dig them up when I'm back on my office on Monday and post them here.

May well be machine specific I guess. I'm on a 2019 MacBook Pro with Retina display.

Just checked my 5k iMac and I'm not seeing a significant diff when the windows are overlapped. I do agree that much of the interface is (and has been) a bit too small to comfortably see on a 27" iMac.

I routinely have to use the MacOS Zoom feature (CTRL-scroll) to see some things. Thus it would be nice to be able to change the sizes of the tools and other icons/text.

Here are three screenshot I took from Publisher ... same machine, same screen settings and resolutions. I opened both (1.8 beta and 1.7.3) next to each other and as you can see, the newer interface is noticeably smaller (if you look for the 1.8.499 beta tread, you'll find that I'm not the only one having this issue).

The buttons that contain the icon are smaller in 1.8 but the actual icons themselves are exactly the same for me when comparing 1.7 retail to 1.8 beta.

I'm also using a 5k iMac and I've tried using Default/Large font UI Size and I've tried all the different scaling options in the System Preferences.

I'm really not sure why you are seeing this unless you use some app to fudge resolution/zoom/anything else like that O.o

Sorry, just saw your reply. I'm not sure either, this is why I raised the issue. :)

I'm not using any screen or resolution related apps at all, just plain, vanilla Catalina.
