Print Photos (home photo printer) from Designer or Publisher

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I would like to know is there any loss of image print quality if I print photos on my home printer that were developed in Photo then printed from within Publisher or Designer.

Both Publisher and Designer have excellent capabilities when it comes to laying out multiple images on the same page that Photo on its own, e.g. printing comp images if multiple photos on a sheet of A4 photo paper.

Thanks

Phill

Hi Phill ODonoghue,

Welcome to the forums :)

This is a rather convoluted question to answer, as it has multiple variables and it depends on your definition of 'loss of print quality'.

For example, you may have a top-of-the-line £5000 printer at home that uses custom ICC profiles and can print with excellent precision, or you may be using a 15 year old laser printer which does not have all the features of a modern printer - each of which would obviously provide different print qualities, even when the same document is printed from the same computer.

Equally, print quality can vary based on the paper type, you will likely not see the best quality print on regular 80gsm white A4 paper compared to professional quality photo paper.

Also, specific printer settings can affect quality, such as 'eco mode' or 'draft mode' and the speed of printing, as well as the physical dimensions of your image and it's DPI.

As a generalisation however, printing from Affinity apps will not provide a 'worse' result than exporting from Affinity and printing externally, so you certainly can print high quality images from Affinity without the app downsampling the images etc, however this does depend on many external factors, including those outlined above.

I hope this helps!

Please note -

I am currently out of the office for a short while whilst recovering from surgery (nothing serious!), therefore will not be available on the Forums during this time.

Should you require a response from the team in a thread I have previously replied in - please Create a New Thread and our team will be sure to reply as soon as possible.

Many thanks!

I think the question is not so much about printing quality generally, but about producing ("developing") the images in APhoto, then importing them into APublisher or ADesigner to layout several photos on one page. I would assume that the question is more about the loss of quality when importing them into one app from another.

AFAIK The quality should be the same (allowing for all the other variables mentioned).

Thanks Guys.

It was a question about "developing" in APhoto and using the other programs to produce the printed output.

I print using an Epson R3000 and I do use ICC profiles and I attempt to the calibrate the monitor using an old Spyder4.

Lots of things to learn to get right so I was just seeking to understand if by using APublisher or ADesigner in the mix I was not detracting from the developed image.

Thanks to both of you for responding its good to know that I can continue down that path without too much of a concern.

Regards

Phill
