p_mac Posted January 6, 2020 Posted January 6, 2020 Curious about the issue of AP with compressed and uncompressed RAW files. Images that should be twice the size are only showing as the compressed size. e.g. compressed size 43mp; uncompressed size 86mp When uncompressed file is opened in AP the file info shows the size as 43mp not 86mp. This is the same is for the 61mp compressed and 122mp; uncompressed for a7r4. is this normal? Quote

v_kyr Posted January 6, 2020 Posted January 6, 2020 Sounds from a Sony α7R IV (PDF brochure) . Quote 16-bit processing and 14-bit RAW output Image sensor output is processed in 16-bit form by the front-end LSI and BIONZ X processor before being output as compressed or uncompressed 14-bit RAW files that have smoother, more natural gradations for higher overall image quality. 14-bit RAW output is available even when shooting in silent or continuous mode.**Limited to 12 bits during compressed RAW continuous shooting, BULB exposure, or when Long Exposure NR is ON. Sony a7rM3 and Sony a7rM4 raw files. Camera setting is for Uncompressed in both cameras. The file size are ~85mp and ~122mp respectively as shown in download files Quote

v_kyr Posted January 7, 2020 Posted January 7, 2020 The APh List of Supported Raw Cameras (1.7.x) does only list the A7R III so far, but there is nothing said about if then both compressed/uncompressed RAWs are supported. - On Macs the APh RAW engine can be switched to use the Apple RAW engine, which supports the A7R IV for MacOS Mojave/Catalina and the A7R III since MacOS HighSierra. For CaptureOne no surprise here, since they have a software cooperation with Sony and thus probably get all needed Sony cam/lens related informations first hand. Unfortunately switching to the Apple engine doesn't help with the large files in AP. It is just recently that I have been able to see the images in a file created on my new iMac which has an 8gb VRAM. As a matter of interest, the compressed files of the a7rM4 are not recognized when trying to import into Photos on the iPad Pro. But I a sure everything will be caught up in a bit. My interest was in what the devs might have to contribute to this conversation. Quote

You may have to file in an bug report here, in order to get any response from those related to that theme. p_mac 1 Quote ☛ Affinity Designer 1.10.8 ◆ Affinity Photo 1.10.8 ◆ Affinity Publisher 1.10.8 ◆ OSX El Capitan ☛ Affinity V2.3 apps ◆ MacOS Sonoma 14.2 ◆ iPad OS 17.2
