Problem Placing Images in Picture Frames

Recommended Posts

I've been creating a directory which has 12 images per page.  I've created 60 Picture Frames in my document and successfully added 12 images.  I do this as, File>>>Place.  But now when I try to add another image I get a warning window something like this: "Your document has excessive information.  Would you like to insert a link instead?"  When I say no to that request, my image is placed inside the rectangle but at what I assume is full size, ie it's not scaling down the image.  Please see the last 2 images in the attachment.

The images are 8x10 @ 300 dpi, but that shouldn't matter should it?

Another question. In  Indesign, there's an option to "Place Into" a frame but I don't see it in Publisher.  I'm assuming it does that by default, right?  Please advise.

Picture Frame, Place Image Tool or Replace image.

Like this?

If you continue embedding large images (8x10, presumably inches, at 300 DPI) into your AFPub document, its size will balloon. No-one really seems to know how big an AFPub file (lots of pages, lots of embedded images) can get before it starts to cause issues with editing/saving/exporting, but better safe than sorry.

There are (at least) two possibilities.

First, in the File menu under Document Setup is an option to "Prefer Linked". With this checked, placed images will not be embedded but referenced, and the AFPub document will hopefully remain at a manageable size. The downside to this is that if the images are subsequently moved (to another folder, say), then Publisher will lose track of them and you would need to re-link them.

Second, if you really do want to embed all the images (which removes the risk of them being moved), then you could resize them to the dimensions of your Picture Frames before Placing them. This will keep the AFPub file down to a manageable size.

I've tried reducing the image size down from 8x10 inches @ 300 but they come in more pixelated.  But I have this resolved!  The 2 frames in question somehow became corrupted.  Replaced them and everything is OK.

But another question. I've set my Image Placement Policy "Prefer Linked"...As for the previous images I've added, is there a way to determine if they were embedded or linked?

Then I linked all 18.  The software changed the embedded staus of each to linked.  Then the doc size inreased to 267,884.  Hard to understand!

Native-format Affinity files are optimized for processing and access speed, not space. When you make changes they tend to grow, and will only shrink after some number of changes have been made, or when you do a "Save As" and save it using a new name.
