Shoogles Posted December 22, 2019 Posted December 22, 2019 Apologies if this has been asked and answered before; I couldn't find the topic in the forum. I've been using AP with my raw photos for well over a year now. I am sure that when I click 'develop' there is a slight but appreciable drop in the clarity and level of detail once the photograph appears in the Photo Persona. Have others experienced this, and is it to be expected, or is there something that I should be doing to avoid this? I'm using a mid-2010 desktop iMac, running High Sierra (10.13.6) Thanks Quote

Shoogles Posted December 22, 2019 Author Posted December 22, 2019 Thanks for pointing me to those. (Note to self... Improve search strategy in future!) Ok, I think I get it. If the pictures are both at 100%, then the degree of sharpness appears to be the same. So can you explain why they appear different at a lower magnification? Quote

AP uses mipmaps to display images at less than 100%. The downside is that changes such as sharpening aren't always displayed. Quote AP, AD & APub user, running Win10
Shoogles Posted December 23, 2019 Author Posted December 23, 2019 Thanks Ian. So it’s not that the image itself is different: it’s simply it’s representation at less than 100% that’s altered? So presumably once the picture is exported (eg as a jpeg or printed) the detail is preserved? Quote

Yes, but the problem is that unless you view the image at 100% when sharpening you cannot accurately tell how much you have sharpened, and how much detail you have. However much you sharpened, that detail will be preserved when you Develop the image, but if you view at the wrong zoom level while sharpening the amount you have sharpened may be wrong.
