1.8.0.526 - hidden minimized windows

Recommended Posts

I still feel AP's "Window" menu needs expanding with other functions (cascade, side by side, etc.) so I don't use it very often and maybe this issue is not related only to the latest beta version...?

Anyway, I had two windows/documents opened and I minimized them. I expected to see them on the bottom of the main AP window (is that right?) but they both disappeared. They were still listed in Window menu but clicking on them did not do anything. I even created a new document and it was invisible too.

To display the documents again I had to use Dock or Alt-Tab from AP and back.

They are available from the Windows Taskbar:

It's odd what happens when you Open another file (or possibly create  New one), though. If you have Floated all windows, and then minimized all of them, the new document is also minimized.

What is happening there is this: the newly opened (or created?) file is being docked to one of the existing floated windows. That is easily seen if you have merely floated, not minized, the windows. This was a new behavior for floated windows in 1.7, and the 1.8 beta behaves the same way.

I wonder if there's a bug here. Automatically docking a newly created or opened file to an existing minimized window feels wrong, as it merely seems that nothing has happened. (But if there is a bug, it's a 1.7 bug, not a beta bug.)

Damn, you're right... :$ Thanks!

So the windows are not really lost but it still feels strange and, well, messy. With one open and minimized document Alt-Tab shows two AP's task/windows - one of them is the open document and the other is the empty AP window. It does not matter which one I choose - I always get to the document opened in the foreground so the other one is a dummy.

I think the new document should never open minimized and clicking on an open minimized document in Windows menu should bring its window back to the foreground.

Note, though, that this is not really a beta issue, as from my experiments the beta and 1.7 are operating the same way.

clicking a menu item should restore any minimised Window.

I have just tried that in 1.8.0.532 (installed over 1.8.0.526). It did not work at first but it started to work as expected after I changed some settings ("Documents open in a new floating Window" and "Documents open in a current windows group") back and forth. Maybe some old variable in settings did not get overwritten?

While experimenting with it I noticed another oddity: if you open the preferences windows and Alt+Tab to another app and back, the preferences windows hides behind floating documents and it becomes virtually invisible. I had to move or minimize the floating documents to get back to the preferences.

Forget the old variable theory. =) I did another test on my second computer and it seems I did not test it properly yesterday. I think I opened too many documents to see the real problem.

Clicking a menu item restores all minimized documents except the one that is checked as active. That also means it does not work with a single open document. I suppose it should work too.
