AlanPickup Posted December 20, 2019 Posted December 20, 2019 Hi Working on a poster and added a circular picture frame and inserted an image. I then duplicated this 5 times to give 6 frames. When I go to replace the image in one of the duplicated frames it allows me to select through file explorer but Publisher then crashes when I click to use that image. I have removed the duplicate in and saved it under a new name, then added the frames individually from the circular frame tool selection and it works OK. I am on Windows 10 If this is not a known issue I still have the file that crashes if you want me to upload Quote Alan Pickup Windows 11 Home all Affinity suite of Apps PC and Gigabyte Laptop 16gb Ram and Nvidia GTX1660 Super on each.
Staff Gabe Posted December 20, 2019 Staff Posted December 20, 2019 Hi @AlanPickup This is not a known issue. Can you please attach the file in question so we can have a look? Quote

AlanPickup Posted December 20, 2019 Author Posted December 20, 2019 Just realized I have attached the wrong file. The circular frame top left of the six is the original and the others are duplicates created with holding control and dragging. Replacing the image in those causes Afpub to crash on my machine Windows 10 Young Adult Carers.afpub Quote Alan Pickup Windows 11 Home all Affinity suite of Apps PC and Gigabyte Laptop 16gb Ram and Nvidia GTX1660 Super on each.
AlanPickup Posted December 23, 2019 Author Posted December 23, 2019 I have noticed this happens with similar scenarios where you duplicate a picture frame complete with image and then change the image. I did one with a circle I had done as part of a Christmas Bauble converted to picture frame. Scenario 1 Create a picture frame 2 add image 3 duplicate using ctrl and drag about six times 4 replacing image in duplicated frames causes crash? On windows 10 and happens on both my laptop and PC. For note I also use one drive for synching Quote Alan Pickup Windows 11 Home all Affinity suite of Apps PC and Gigabyte Laptop 16gb Ram and Nvidia GTX1660 Super on each.
Joachim_L Posted December 23, 2019 Posted December 23, 2019 Confirmed for 1.7.3.481, in beta 1.8.0.523 the document does not crash but the picture frame has no controls anymore and is empty. Maybe the cause is, that inside the picture frames are TWO images (one outside of the page). If you remove one of the image and the replace the document won't crash in 1.7.3x. AlanPickup Posted December 23, 2019 Author Posted December 23, 2019 Thanks for taking a look, I had not thought to look at the layers. It seems what is happening is that sometimes the ctrl & drag creates a picture frame where the image is in the layer but cannot be seen, nor is there any controls for manipulating the image within the frame. I think this is dependent on where you click to do the drag operation. Because I have not seen an image, just the outline of a frame I have presumed it did not work, so dragged again to the same area. I also had the scenario of multiple images that could not be seen, through repeating using stacked layers on the canvas. Suppose the answer is to always use a blank frame if you want multiple copies of the same size using ctrl & drag. There is obviously something happening away from the norm and developers can look at it in time. Staff Gabe Posted January 2, 2020 Staff Posted January 2, 2020 As @Joachim_L already noticed, you have 2 files inside that picture frame. Replacing while you have the parent "Picture frame" selected crashes in 1.7, but does not crash in 1.8 (It empties the picture frame). However, replacing with a child selected works fine. Also, CTRL + Drag after you place an image should duplicate the frame not the content, and this only seems to affect Windows and not macOS I have logged both issues with our developers. Quote
