gratzergraphics Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 I cannot for the life of me figure out why, when I copy text and then paste it, it changes sizes. If I link/thread text from one frame to another, it does the same thing. https://www.loom.com/share/969c3ea3e4b2492197d48c8fa44735a4 Quote
Old Bruce Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 I am having to guess you are talking about Publisher. There is a resize handle near the bottom right corner of the Text Frame and if you use that to change the size of the text frame it will also scale the size of the text going into it. Make a new text frame and try replacing the one which resizes your text. 3 hours ago, gratzergraphics said: I cannot for the life of me figure out why, when I copy text and then paste it, it changes sizes. gratzergraphics Posted December 19, 2019 Author Posted December 19, 2019 Thanks but when i recreate the frames on the master, it wipes out my text on the page. This is absolutely maddening. I can't imagine why the creators would think this would be a good feature to have. Quote
gratzergraphics Posted December 19, 2019 Author Posted December 19, 2019 Not only that, but I've redone the masters once already, being careful to not scale the frame in the process. I've already now redone all my text on every page, and my master is AGAIN doing the same thing!!! Quote
Old Bruce Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 Ah, it is on the masters. Make the new text frame, unlink the old messed up one from whatever and link whatever to the new text frame then delete the old messed up one. gratzergraphics Posted December 19, 2019 Author Posted December 19, 2019 I've even created new pages based on that master, and it does the same. This has cost me hours and hours of searching to find answers and of rework, and it's still not resolved. Quote
Old Bruce Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 I am not sure where the problem is coming from. I would need to see the document or a document which has this problem in it. Unfortunately you as a newly registered user can't post documents or files for a certain length of time, I am not sure how long it is. As it is I have to ask a series of questions and can't guarantee that I'll be asking the right questions in the right manner (so you can correctly interpret my meaning). Is this text from a text file or a word processing file? Is the text from the clipboard and if it is what is the program/application it is copied from? Do you have a Paragraph style applied to it? Does it happen when you make text frames on a Page as opposed to a text frame from a Master Page? How many frames are on the master page? Are your Paragraph Styles and Character Styles changing once you have pasted the text into the Publisher Document? Should I have fish or chicken for dinner? Sorry, it is getting to that time here. How many instances of the Master Page are on your page layer? How many Master Pages are in your document? ... and many many more as we go back and forth. gratzergraphics Posted December 20, 2019 Author Posted December 20, 2019 Thank you, Bruce. I appreciate your help. Text has been formatted with a paragraph style and then copied from within Publisher. Does it happen when you make text frames on a Page as opposed to a text frame from a Master Page? I believe it's only happening with the text frames from a master page. How many frames are on the master page? 2 How many instances of the Master Page are on your page layer? Not sure what you mean. I did select all the text then reapply the master page and pasted the text. How many Master Pages are in your document? 6 or 7. Some are based on other masters. Quote
walt.farrell Posted December 20, 2019 Posted December 20, 2019 Without knowing exactly how the Text Frames were initially created we probably won't be able to say how you got into that situation. And with the frame for the header linked to the frame below it for the text, recovering may be difficult, but would probably work better in the 1.8 beta of Publisher than in the 1.7 stable release. (Of course, the betas are intended only for testing, and any native format (.afpub, .afphoto, .afdesign, etc.) files you save with the beta won't be able to be used with the stable release. So if you do anything using 1.8 beta do it to a copy of your document.) Can you share your .afpub document, in it current form? If you cannot attach it to a forum post, you could put a copy on Google Drive, OneDrive, DropBox, etc. where we can see it.
