Curzie Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 Hi, I have Affinity Photo on my pc desktop, I also have the iPad version - both bought and paid for. I would like to also use Photo on my Mac book. Is my desktop version licensed for me to use it (I will not be using it on both machines at the same time) or am I required to buy a new version? And if so, full price? If so, I may start thinking that this is not a cost effective S/w choice for me, going forward. Quote
GarryP Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 Welcome to the forums. The iPad, OS X and Windows versions are all separate licences and can’t (as far as I know) be transferred between operating systems. You can use the same licence on multiple machines with the same operating system as long as you own these machines (and don’t take things too far) but you cannot transfer a licence from one OS to another. If you want to use an Affinity app on a machine that uses an OS for which you don’t currently have a licence for then you will need to purchase a new licence for that OS. Callum 1 Quote
Curzie Posted December 19, 2019 Author Posted December 19, 2019 Thanks for the reply. I think it is a bit ridiculous if I have to buy 3 licences for the same software. Capture One and Adobe allow OS porting on licenses. Shame. I was beginning to warm to the S/w but I’m not willing to buy another version for my laptop, and will be looking at alternatives for all platforms. Quote

And how much do they cost, as compared with an Affinity product? As I read their website, Capture One would be $20/month ($240/year) subscription, or $299 for a perpetual license. Each Affinity license you need to buy is about $50 US, so you could switch to Capture One by paying them $299 or you could buy another Photo license for $50. Also, from what I can tell from the Capture One website, the single user perpetual license is good for a maximum of 3 computers, period. For personal use, each Affinity license allows you to install the app on as many computers that run the same OS as you own or control, without limit. For commercial/enterprise use, the Affinity licenses are more restrictive but dirt cheap compared to Capture One's multi-user & enterprise licenses.
