colouring an object on a B & W photo

Recommended Posts

I just cant seem to be able to work how to do it?  I am working with black and white photos and images.  The images are mainly of lists of genealogical information.  I wish to highlite some of the persons shown by placing a small red star alongside their name to show them up.  I just cannot fathom any way to be able to do it.  I have tried by selecting the star and opening New Adjustment Layer and trying to use the Gradient Map, but the colour slider is only in B & W.

Can anyone help please?

I’m having difficulty understanding exactly what you are trying to do.
For example, what are you trying to colour? If you are placing a red star shape on the image then it’s already red and shouldn’t need recolouring.
Can you give more information please? (With a visual sample if possible.)

Hi

Check if the file you're working on (your document) is greyscale or colour.

To do this go to the Document menu and select Convert Format / ICC Profile.

In the Convert box that opens up, click Format.

Choose a profile from the list in the dialog; in your case try RGB/8.

Click Convert.

Your file can now show colours.

Does this help?
