can you help me please

More info is needed to help you

What do you mean by losing linked files?

Are they shown as "missing" in the Resource Manager?

Are they on remote/networked/cloud drives?

Have they been moved from their original locations?

Are there any error messages popping up?

To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum. If any of "my" posts are wrong or appear to be total b*ll*cks they are the ones generated by the AI. If correct they were probably mine. I apologise for any mistakes made by my AI - I'm sure it will improve with time.

yes, The linked files are shown as missing in the resource manager.

They are on an external hadrdrive. They are not moved or changed in any way.

Error message: ... missing files...

in the resource manger they are shown as : fehlt (German)

If an External drive disconnects briefly for any reason that can cause the "missing" files messages in Resource Manager

The quickest way to eliminate the external drive as being the problem would be to move all linked files to your local drive and run with it like that for a few days and see what happens.

I am having the same type of problem. I work using a permanent addressed server, all files are held on the server and in the same folder for each project or if it is a shared resource, it is held in a permanent shared folder. Every time I reopen a project, ap message "missing Resource s". So I am spending time re linking the files, I am new to ap so I might be doing something stupid.

File server is shut down at night.

Any guidance greatfully received.

Many thanks in advance

Ian

Thank you Markusde for coming back, think I may re open a topic as in my humble opinion if the address has not changed then AP should be able to re link. It may have something to do with session id's but I would have thought that should not be the case.

If your external drive had a new url when you plug it in I understand, but as in our case and probably yours, the address remains the same and the ap file is held in the same folder as the resource. We work from workstations accessing the server not from individual pc's with everything on it.

will see what come up.

Best regards

Hi Mark,

I opened a new post

Losing linked resources in Affinity Publisher 1.8.2.620

and got a reply from Walt that did help to relocate all the missing files in one go "IF" they are all in the same directory.  Thought it might help you a little.

Best regards

@MarkusDe

Found my answer after some digging and a bit of help from the forum. We use 2 computers and one server. Computer A was referencing the server by "name" and computer B was referencing by IP. This meant any file re opened on the "other" computer had the wrong path to follow. got them both referencing by name and all is well.

Don't know if that helps you at all.

Best regards

Ian

Sorry.

Thank you for reporting a problem using 1.7.x . It appears that a member of the Affinity QA team didn't get round to fully investigating this specific report posted in the bugs forums. We are very sorry for this oversight. Yours is one of a number of reports that I am posting this apology to, using an automated script.

Now we have released 1.8.3 on all platforms containing many hundreds of bug fixes, and we hope your problem has already been fully addressed. If you still have this problem in the 1.8.3 release build, then the QA team would really appreciate you reporting again it in the relevant Bugs forum.

Each of those links above contains instructions how best to report a bug to us. If that is what you already did in this thread just copy paste your original report into a new thread. We appreciate all the information that you have including sample files and screen shots to help us replicate your problem.

This thread has now been locked as the QA team are not following the threads to which this automatic reply is made, which is why we would appreciate a new bug report if you are still have this problem in the current 1.8.3 release build.
