missing fillings on .pdf export

Recommended Posts

Designer, Publisher, any version incl. newest beta / WIN

Hi,

1. when using a bitmap as a gradient (fill), or a style (e.g. a pattern) to fill an object: If the content which will be filled is smaller than the object itself, the content will be duplicated as often as it is needed. Looks good in afpub, afdesign etc. Looks good too (and as it should) in an exported .jpg ... but not in an exported .pdf (s. two sample in the pic below, a) a gradient fill (bitmap), b) a style fill

2. Same happens with live effects applied on any photo (regardless if it is a file layer or a pixel layer)... jpg ok, pdf doesn't recognize the effects (e.g. lightning effects).

What to do?

Hi design punch,

I wonder if you are running into the same issue as this thread with the gradient fills.  If you can attach the .afpub or afdesign file i'll be happy to check.

The live effects not being exported to PDF is a known issue and is logged with the Dev team to resolve.  The only method i'm aware of to get these to export out is to rasterize the document, there is an option for this on the Export Dialog under the More button.

Hi stokerg,

thanks for your answers.

1. live filter pdf export: I didn't (and didn't find it) that this is already a known issue. The only workaround at the moment seems to be putting all layers together in a top layer in photo. Rasterizing the .pdf doesn't help here.

2. export fills to .pdf - attached please find a simple pub file.
page 1 contains a rectangle and a curve with a gradient fill (bitmap)
page 2 contains a rectangle and a curve with a style fill
page 3 contains 2 rectangles converted to curves, 1 with a bitmap, 1 with a style fill

Please .pdf export the pages with rasterize everything: all correct
Please .pdf export the pages without rasterize everything (e.g. format print): the behaviour is a bit strange:
 -  within own made curves the complete (multiplicated) content is there
 -  within e.g. rectangles the content is reduced to one element (no multiplication any longer)
 -  within rectangles converted to curves the content is still reduced to one element (no multiplication any longer)

thanks for looking into it ...
