Use an affinity license purchased for Win10 on other Windows OS

Recommended Posts

Hi, I purchased an affinity photo license by downloading the app from the MS Store for Win10, I read that it is possible to use the same license purchased also on other PCs, but only by downloading the same license again from the MS Store. But I need to use the same license (already bought) on a PC with Win7 (not Win10), but to do this I have to download the sw from the Serif store (and not from MS) and I need a product key, but I don't have it because the app downloaded from the MS Store doesn't have the product key. How can I do? It does not seem right not to be able to use your license bought on PCs that do not have win10. Thanks

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums, Camillo66.

I'm afraid you're out of luck. If you purchased from the MS Store then you are limited to using that license on Windows 10. There is no way to do otherwise.

If you had purchased directly from Serif you would be able to download and use on all supported versions of Windows (7, 8.1, 10) that meet the system requirements.

Hi Camillo66,
Welcome to Affinity Forums :)
If you purchased the app recently, you may be able to get a refund if you contact the Microsoft Store support directly (so you can buy it again from the Affinity Store), otherwise there isn't much we can do since both stores are independent from each other and managed by different entities (Serif/Microsoft).

Hi MEB, thanks for your reply, I understood what you are saying and I had already read it, but yesterday I sent my evidence of the license purchase to Serif, it would not be possible to have a product key to activate a license on windows 7, since can't I use the one I bought for windows 10? Thanks

Because Serif and Microsoft do not exchange ANY information about their respective customers there is no way by which either of them can issue any sort of licence to allow purchasers using one store (e.g. Microsoft) to also access the other and download from it (in this case Serif).  As @walt.farrell says, purchases from the Microsoft Store require the user to have Windows 10 as the OS so the only method by which you will be able to use the app on your Win7 machine is by buying the app from the Serif store.

Long-time user of Serif products, chiefly PagePlus and PhotoPlus, but also WebPlus, CraftArtistProfessional and DrawPlus.  Delighted to be using Affinity Designer, Photo, and now Publisher, version 1 and now version 2.

iPad Pro (11") running Affinity Photo and Designer (iOS 16.5) version 1 and all three version 2 apps.

Serif have hinted that they may no longer support their Affinity products on Windows 7 after Microsoft drops support for it (14th Jan 2020) so you may also want to consider your options if they do that.

Upgrading (or replacing) your Windows 7 PC with Windows 8.1 or even Windows 10 may be another cost you need to factor in.
