Hi Serif,

You publish BETA-version of your products to collect the feedback from us.
You also suggest not to use these versions for production use.

so far, so good.

the issue is: files from Beta-versions can not be opened with release-versions.
Result 1: Pro-users will not use the Beta-versions   or   not as intensively as they are using the Release-Version since its a waste of time - they need to get work done.
Result 2: you receive less "high level" feedback.

Don´t you agree, that you could collect more professional user´s feedback on Beta-versions if you add a "Save as Release-Version" - compatibility-option
to attract more Pro-users to use the Beta-version since they will no longer risk to lose work/time?

kind regards
Fritz

If Serif could make sure that this workflow does not contain bugs that result in extra effort … :79_smiley_cat:

The betas frequently contain new features which have no counterparts in the older versions so that is pretty much impossible to implement.

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.6
Affinity Designer 2.5.7 | Affinity Photo 2.5.7 | Affinity Publisher 2.5.7 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

@Oval
well...
Serif is not a charity organisation: they want my money (OK!) but I expect less fancy stuff and more bug-fixing!

Its really hard for me to understand that there are still issues when exporting to PSD  (at least until recently..)
or issues about wrong pages-sizes etc...  these are basic-features.
Just read the postings in the beta-Forums...

kind regards
Fritz

Oval has a post count of over 1800. I think he's probably read them quite a bit. More to the point you are as entitled as any to make requests

Please check the Release-Notes of the Affinity Beta-Versions:
most lines begin with "fixed" or "improved" and only a few of them explain new features.

And even if that´s the case: Serif is able to handle a feature-gap when exporting to PSD.
Why not do the same when exporting to Affinity release-version? (perhaps just rasterize the affected Layers ?)
OR, perhaps even better:
Serif could offer a Converter-Webservice that allows to upload the Beta-File to have them converted to Release Version.

Serif could collect valuable Data from such a Converter about the usage of their software...
(such a converter-Server should be located in the EU of course to make sure about the GDPR etc..)

@Patrick Connor

In case your reply is an answer to my posting: I am not sure what you are trying to say - perhaps my language skills are not sufficient..

I did not in any way question his entitlement to post requests.
I understood his answer to me as: "Serif does not do this because it will cause additional work for them".
a misunderstanding?

kind regards
Fritz

Yep, because there is no “no”. Great “Pro-idea” with the "risk” of more effort for Pro-users (and Serif).

Agreed. I quickly corrected my post which was incorrect. You quoted it before my correction. sorry
