Failed to save document

Recommended Posts

Once I want to save file with affinity format, the error message shows up.

It says, " Failed to save document:<file name>

Save failed  because access to the file was lost.

Do you whish to save the document to a new file?"

Then I select Save As... and it happens again.

So, I never been able to save any files with affinity format.

I can export the file but, not with affinity format.

This error happens both on photo and designer.

It seems odd that it says the document name is <Untitled>, @kaiiwamoto.

Are you using File > Save or File > Save As? If you're using Save As, can you show a screenshot of that dialog after you enter the file name and before you press Save, please?

Are you trying to save to a network drive, or a local drive?

Can you please try to create a new Windows profile and see if you can save on that one?

I created the new account and reinstalled the both application, but they didn't work.

They give me the same error.

At this moment, I export as pdf for Designer files and Tiff for Photo files, and I don't have any issue now.

Any chance you could re-install it on a drive with no compression and see if that's any better? I tried in here on a compressed driver and it was working fine. No issues at all...

We would like to know what's causing this issue.

Kai, cheers you got it working via a factory reset and then software reinstall, but I hope the root issue can be found and fixed to prevent those hours of trouble for the rest of us. I have the same problem with both Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer on Windows 10, ever since late June. I have tried the latest Affinity Photo (1.8.4..) and even tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it. I can export to other file formats just fine, but when trying to save to native file formats .afphoto or .afdesign in Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer respectively in Win 10 result in
"Failed to save document: <Untitled>
Save failed because access to the file was lost.
Do you wish to save the document to a new file?"

The files that result are empty 0 byte files as you can see from the uploaded save dialog screenshot. This happens on EVERY internal drive that I try to save files to. All of them are SSD drives.
My system specs and Windows build are attached. Oddly, both Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer work fine on my older laptop that also runs windows 10 (specs not shown).

Not sure why this glitch recently appeared, but I did get some new ram (pushing it from 24gb to 32gb) and installed Affinity Photo and Designer on my second Windows 10 machine (old laptop). Any help with this will be MUCH appreciated. I can't find much info via Google besides people having issues saving to directly to external drives; all my drives are internal SSDs.

@Gabe,

Yes sir, it happens with every file I create and try to save, and even files that I have opened cannot be saved to the native .afphoto or .afdesign files. I can open the .afphoto files that were saved before this glitch appeared, but I cannot save .afphoto or .afdesign files at all now; it's so darn consistent on my Win10 PC that I think something may have happened to this particular install of Windows 10. Maybe it was adding more ram? Maybe I installed too many other programs? I am seriously going to reformat my PC with a fresh install of Windows 10 which will likely remedy this, but I have no idea how to avoid this problem from happening again.
