44r0n Posted December 13, 2019 Posted December 13, 2019 (edited) After having traced 6 characters using the same setup shown in the first screenshot. Original Sketch locked on the top layer. I can see through the rectangle the original picture in the background combined with the fill I chose. No matter what color I pick I can always see the original Image...despite being the top layer. Again, this worked out fine the whole time. For some reason this doesn't work anymore. In the second screenshot you can see the setup is exactly the same. But now I can only see the fill if I turn off the original layer or if I move the layer to the bottom. It was actually really nice being able to add color while working to certain areas and still see the original strokes through the color fill. I checked everything. There is no difference in the setup. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Edit : can' upload files. will add later Edited December 13, 2019 by 44r0n Trying to upload images Quote
Staff MEB Posted December 13, 2019 Staff Posted December 13, 2019 Hi 44r0n, Welcome to Affinity Forums Check if the Blend Modes (the dropdown on the top of the Layers panel) match on both setups. New users are not allowed to attach files/images on first post (to prevent spammers from posting nasty stuff). You should be able to do it after a couple posts. 44r0n Posted December 13, 2019 Author Posted December 13, 2019 Hey, thanks for the quick response. I did tho check the blend mode....that was the first thing I did. Exactly the same setting. Quote
44r0n Posted December 13, 2019 Author Posted December 13, 2019 I can see there's a way to work around that. If I move the Original Sketch down to the bottom and change the blend mode of the layer I put on top, I am able to see the strokes of the original while keeping the fill. This is okish...it just baffles me that all over sudden the same layer settings don't create the same outcome anymore... Quote
Staff MEB Posted December 13, 2019 Staff Posted December 13, 2019 Without the screenshots or even better the original files it's difficult to guess what's going on. Do you mind uploading both files with the two different "setups" (one that works and the other that doesn't) for us to check? Here's a link to upload them directly to us. 44r0n Posted December 13, 2019 Author Posted December 13, 2019 Just uploaded the files. As you can see in the first screenshot you are able to see the original sketch through the fill of the rectangle. The rectangle is right beneath the original. Normal Blend mode. In the second screenshot basically the same setting tho the rectangle is a few layers down...doesn't make a difference...had it right beneath before. Quote
44r0n Posted December 13, 2019 Author Posted December 13, 2019 To be honest, maybe I should have placed the original sketch at the bottom and put the tracing layer above to begin with. But it just worked fine before and now it doesn't. This just changed the workflow a bit but I should be able to adapt. Nevertheless, It would be interesting to know why this was possible in the first place and/or why this isn't anymore. Quote
Staff MEB Posted December 13, 2019 Staff Posted December 13, 2019 Hi 44r0n, On the setup that works, the sketch strokes are on a transparent pixel layer on top of everything else. On the one that doesn't, the sketch is inside a general layer (that's collapsed - i can't see what's there - click the small arrow on the left of the thumbnail to expand it - that probably either have the sketch strokes on a non-transparent layer (has white background) or there's another white object behind them. In both cases that white hides everything below. If you upload the afdesign file that doesn't work i can tell you for sure. Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software
44r0n Posted December 13, 2019 Author Posted December 13, 2019 Hey, I just noticed the white background in the thumbnail in the second screenshot...thanks very much. I know what I gotta do now. Thanks for your help. Much appreciated. Quote
