SharonPerp Posted December 8, 2019 Posted December 8, 2019 I've made a picture in Designer with a transparent background and I can't export it with the transparent background. I've tried everything on the Forum but nothing works. I tried opening the actual .png with the white background in Photo, and it's transparent there. So confusing. Obviously the .png "knows" the background is transparent but I can't see it that way. I'm new to Affinity although I used PagePlus and the other two as a casual user for many years. I'm just completely stuck. I'm running a Mac with Catalina and just purchased all three programs from the Affinity store. I'm attaching the transparent Designer/Photo image and the not-transparent .png. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Logo transparent attempt.afdesign Quote

What are you using to view the png file? Not all apps 'know' to display transparency as a checkered background, but most do. For example, when I open your png file in Apple's Preview app, the checkered background is there, confirming that it does indeed include a transparent background: SharonPerp 1 Quote All 3 1.10.8, & all 3 V2.5.7 Mac apps; 2020 iMac 27"; 3.8GHz i7, Radeon Pro 5700, 32GB RAM; macOS 10.15.7 All 3 V2 apps for iPad; 6th Generation iPad 32 GB; Apple Pencil; iPadOS 15.7
SharonPerp Posted December 9, 2019 Author Posted December 9, 2019 Hmmm, I opened it in Apple Preview, too, and the background is white in mine. But, when I click on it here in the browser, it's transparent. Some kind of problem with my Preview settings? AHA! Ugh, so much time wasted! I went into Preview's window preferences and right away it showed a little white button. Clicked on it, changed it to green and boom, image background is green. But, I don't see any way to show a transparent background in Preview, so, it's still confounding. I'm running latest version of everything. At least I have a workaround. Thank you for your response, I don't think I would ever have figured this out! Quote

For Apple's Preview app, try "Show Document Background" under the View menu, and if there is transparency in an image, then a checkerboard pattern should appear and indicate that transparency. SharonPerp Posted December 9, 2019 Author Posted December 9, 2019 Ack, you are the best! I feel dumb for not having found this, but I'm up to my ears in backlog and don't have a lot of brainspace for thinking beyond it. Thank you so much, worked beautifully. Definitely happy to be back with Serif in new incarnation and such a helpful forum. :-) Sharon Quote
