Reproduceable crash

I'm using ver. 1.7.3.481

-open image (tried 4 or 5 different images), or create new document (created a blank document then paint bucket fill)
-add curves adjustment - crash, every time, tried many (10+) times

 

 I opened an image and added a curves adjustment and it crashed. It looks like I can't make a curves adjustment layer at all without crashing Photo. Created a blank image and got the same result. I tried every type of adjustment layer and only the curves adj. failed.

Welcome to the forums. 

Try this:

Close Photo. Navigate to %AppData%\Affinity\Photo\ and rename 1.0 to 1.0.backup. Reopen photo.

Have you tried clearing user data

Hold down the Ctrl key whilst starting Affinity.

A Clear User Data dialogue should open. Click on Select all, then click on Clear.

Note: This will sort of restore Affinity to factory defaults, and as a result you will lose any user preferences you have set up.

@Greyfox Renaming that folder does what the Clear User Data does (even a bit more than that). 

@JohnFromMI can you attach the crash report? You can find it in %AppData%\Affinity\Photo\1.0\CrashReports\reports

Is there a setting to enable/disable crash reports? Because my reports folder is empty. But here is the info that I'm getting from Windows, if it's any use to you:

Well I found the problem: I use Universal Theme Patcher. I switched from a custom theme to an Aero theme and added a curves adjustment to three different images and no crash. Then switched back and tried again and crash again.

• Aero is a requirement to run the Software

We require Desktop Windows Management Composition, rather than native Graphics drivers. This is natively on for Windows 8 and 10, but on Windows 7 this is most easily achieved by turning Aero ON. If you are not willing to turn the Aero theme on there is a work around described in this post, but any issues when running the software won't be logged unless they've been verified as still occurring with DWM Composition enabled.

It sounds like that "patcher" might do something with AERO. Unfortunately, there's not much we can do as we require AERO to work properly. 

In Edit > Preferences > Misc you can turn on auto-upload for crash reports, but even so they will only be a mini-crashdump and not a full crashdump you find in %AppData%\Affinity\Photo\1.0\CrashReports\reports . Now that we've found the issue, we don't need a crash report.
